I said I was going away and GodDamn it maybe I can’t. It seems I cannot stop the lurking but the semi-controversy just makes me want to cry. It is a shame that everyone cannot go but I expect it would be a shame also that Commander’s would not be able to set a table for the size group that would assemble for dinner at this point in time either. I think, given that I am a non-participating outsider, that it might be time to have a patry for a few friends, in other words the 200 or so who need to do this and would make the requisite donations to a ticket fund and perhaps have a massive threadhead gathering during the days ‘tween that would not be exclusive by number of participants who would be allowed. This would be a simple enough thing to do but would require effort on the part of the organizers that I am, by virtue of my non-participation totally unaware of. It would indeed be a wonderful thing for the parties represented by participation on this board to have a chance to gather in one place, exclusive of Miss Lena’s, and share feelings and remembrances of past posts, eat and make merry. I remember back to the first year when Acme and the patry were both staged so I know that both are possible. I do not know the City of New Orleans’ position on things such as renting the Square for a day of non-fest fun or a hall with a wonderful group of musicians but I am sure others do. I see this as being the last of the open to the “Public” patries unless something like this is done to accommodate the unbelievable surge in popularity as acrimony in following years is sure to dwarf the small amount seen this year. Sorry to interject this but it might be worth discussion.

Azeater,

I have enjoyed your writing (yes it is far more than posting) and I concur with your sadness as an outsider looking in on this whole issue too. I have not posted on any of the threads because I could offer nothing. It is unfortunate that hard feelings have come to those that love each other and have for so many years. Additionally this lady feels I have little to offer other than saying {{group hug}} and remember what this is all about. It is about kids going to fest and the large hearts of so many.

True wisdom will come as to what to do in the future years regarding the patry and dealing with its success. Until then we can only throw some ideas out there and to focus on the beauty of idea that started it all.

Don't be a stranger. You have lots to offer and I enjoy your words.

Peace to you and your kind soul.

Well, I know. And, it's a case of giving it a little time. Many of us were disappointed, but I feel that most of us have come to grips with it. Nobody was prepared for both the ticket sales AND the waitlist to show 'Sold Out' in a microsecond.

So, we reacted with incredulity. We must have been screwed somehow!

But, we know better now. We're ok. We appreciate the efforts of the patry folks, and we hope for better luck next year.

Getting shut out so quickly hurt, but that's because the patry is such a good thing.

My suggestion is that the patry folks don't change a thing (except for setting aside a ticket for me in advance). http://www.nojazzfest.com/chat/images/icons/icon11.gif
