This is one I do not miss. Last year was a trip with all the tents on the beach getting blown away!!! Awesome place and the year before we had a river going through our camp.
Met some great people at Vibes....

I'm off - already wrote this in.
I found this fest intriguing. Those cabins look neat plus a really good lineup.

My friend is having his bachelor party at Vibes.....Hippie Boy that he is! Can't wait!

:) I ran into a guy at High Sierra Fest who was on his extended bachelor party with his bud's. A very accomodating bride, I'd say!

Without derailing the thread too much for remedial education, would you mind schoolin' a potential Vibes type with some tips? ie:
what major airport would be the easiest (closest) for an out-of-state'r;
gettin' food, drink, ice & sundries (are they all available on the premises?);
is a car an essential part of getting there'n'back?

Thanks - I'm jealous about the lineup, but I'll be in Mendocino camping & pickin' with friends, so it'll do!

Bridgeport is slightly closer to Bradley (Hartford/Springfield) than LaGuardia (NYC), but there are many more flights into the New York airports

The venue, Seaside Park, is one mile south of the Bridgeport Metro-North Station (New Haven Line from Grand Central), and is also served by Amtrak . . . easy walk, or cabs available at the station

Car camping is the norm, but that is just about sold out . . . I have plenty of friends who dont car camp, the Bridgeport Holiday Inn is right near the train station

There's a small general store on site, ice for sale, and draft beer - and bodegas/liquor stores within a couple of blocks (no beer/wine/liquor for package sales in CT after 9 PM, and not at all on Sunday) . . . supermarkets and BJ's are less than 3 miles from the venue

hope that helps

Depending upon if Southwest does fly from Sac you could land at MacArthur Airport in Long Island and drive to the Ferry in Port Jefferson. It is a nice ride and you drive right on and it takes you right into Bridgeport. That is what we did last year. You can see the festival and all the tents as you dock at Bridgeport.

Very fun!

Thanks! I'm making my "bucket list" of must-attend festivals (never too early to start) and I really like the lineup and vibe of this one, so it's going way ahead of Coachella or Festaroo - er, Bonnaroo. I worry a little about these kinds of line-ups sometimes for my wife's sake - she being a veteran of hundreds of Dead/Jerry Band shows - because it can be a little bittersweet for her. It's not easy to explain sometimes to people who either missed, or got off, the Dead tour bus. She's more of an omnivore now, especially at Jazzfest, and she managed almost the entire Ratdog show at High Sierra Fest without a Jerry Moment. It's easier for me... oh, look, music! But I've always been easily amused. :)

Well, put it at the top of the list (or maybe right behind Crawfishfest). I haven't made GOTV since it moved to CT, but am planning on it. Just not this year as I will be backpacking on the Long Trail in VT. Next year, definitely. If you need a ride from one of the NY airports I am sure we can work something out.

I feel her ....and glad it is not just me.....have those Jerry Moments and they are genuine sadness...love Phil and Friends but the worst is at Ratdog when Bobby does a hard core Jerry song...wish he would just stick to Bobby stuff.... Slowly eased myself back on the bus with the encouragement of some groovy deadhead friends and am now really happy that we are still dancing to the music....
like I said glad you shared and that it is not just me...as my husband thinks I am silly to still freakin miss him soo....

Thanks for being simpatico! And it gets better every year... I wondered for about 10 minutes during our 1st Jazzfest when a famous jamband started playing a familiar Jerry-ish refrain and my wife had a mini-meltdown, something we still jokingly refer to as her "string cheese incident" :) but it was easy to fix - we just mosied over to the blues tent and caught a great Sonny Landreth set... THEN I knew we'd be alright, and our destiny at Jazzfest was secure.

I saw a full back tattoo that was a bit much of a commitment for me, but seemed to say it best: "we're alone now" above a huge SYF, with "but family forever" underneath.

that is groovy I took me a while to figure it out but there is truth in that sentiment as I happily discovered !!!!
My two biggest melt downs were the first time I heard Bobby do Eyes of the World....and Warren accoustic doing PAtchwork Quilt at Jazzfest I tried to hide it then just said it is jazzfest and these people will understand so I just sat there in the sun weeping but smiling at the time.....
LOL and a hug on her string cheese incident......

O
Katy we need to get more peeps to come if we have to represent for this whole boatload of krewe :) that is whole lotta dancing ....

Gathering has always been a special fest for me. It certainly soothed my soul at the first vibes in '96. I made several in a row but have missed the last couple of years. I am confident that Tangie, Deni, Charlie and Juls will represent TH nation for sure.

This is a great heart warmer festival. Running into old faces from Dead shows and we don't even know names....we just hug!

Dan, I will call ya when I am there. Just please don't drink all the Abita down there while I am away this month! I have been drinking Sam Summer and it is pretty good!

I know! Unfortunately, I don't think it's gonna happen. Had plans to meet up with you and Abita over July 4th, but then I guess you got delayed. I've been swamped and been getting ready for backpacking from Canada to Stowe VT next week on the Long Trail in VT. Leaving tomorrow night. Going to be completely out of touch, no cell, no computer, no TV for about 8 days (depending on weather). Thats why I won't be able to make GOTVs.

I owe you $ for the gift too. Sorry, I've been out of it. Will pay ya, and hopefully see you before too long. Have a blast. k
