Welcome to the Krewe of Misfit Threadheads (and Toys)!!!

We like to have fun wherever we are - and all are welcome to join us (even olive lovers)!

We too would like to do something fun and creative to help raise money for Fest4Kidz - so we've created some fun things to add to your Threadhead wardrobe (as hopefully you all have some of the fabulous CarolineBeadhead originals in your closet already!). :)

In the way that the ancient Mardi Gras Krewes spawned sub-groups of folks (who still participate in the parent group activities), we have come to be born and will love being part of the larger T.H. Nation vibe (such as the Raffle, Patry, Meetups, Trivia and Ms. Lena's), while still being the Misfits that we are and can't help being . . .

If you'd like to check out the initial KOMTAT offerings - you can do so here:
http://www.cafepress.com/komtat

It's not the amazing original art that CarolineBeadhead excels at - but some fun and silly additions to the Threadhead line and the proceeds will go to Fest4Kidz. :D

Also hoping to get off the waitlist, but note that d.b.a. has Lynn Drury starting at 4, followed by Joe Krown at 7. And then there's Dragon Smoke at Blue Nile. In-stores before and in between; and also Kermit starting at 6:30at Bullit's, which is quite different than most of his gigs, for those who have never checked that out before.

So should Santa arrive at the last minute and tell me my ticket's been punched for the patry so I can leave the island...I can still be a misfit?

Good, because I was thinking even among misfits that could make me misfit...but now I know that all is cool. (Except for the #$#$ feet of snow that just fell on my front steps)

You're both correct! It IS a wonderful thing of the Threadhead Nation :) . . . We can't have sub-krewes too though? Like the NY Krewe that hangs out up there? Or the NOLA Local Yokels here? Or the NorCal/SoCal folks?

As I posted in the first post of this thread - this isn't an "exclusive" thing or a reactionary thing - just some of us who found this a fun thing to do/be . . . we're not trying to be splitters or divisive - just having a bit of fun . . . that's all :D

I think it is a fabulous idea for Threadheads to gather whenever/wherever they can. Folks who can't get to the Patry getting together anyway is a real display of Threadhead community and should be a huge blast!

But it seems wierd to me to be labeling a sub-group as "the Misfit Toys", as if the people were thrown away onto the Island of Misfits because they aren't wanted, when that is so clearly not the case. It feels like it is "Patry Threadheads" and "Unwanted Threadheads", which is absolutely untrue.

Just my $0.02.

(plus, I'd be concerned about copywrite infringement issues)

Don;t see it that way!! Looks like a group we should embrace anyway!! I am thinking most positive that most of the currently labeled Not in the Patry YET misfits will be at the Patry if they are on the waiting list! TH Karma....Think the Misfit TH's will just give us more fun!!
and the way it is shaking out might even entice some of us to float in and out :) since they seem to be finding really cool things to do !!
I have friends who have no interest in being at the patry but they will definitely appreciate the alternate choices.

when the NY krewe gets together , we get together because we are threadheads and are meeting to listen to some music have some dinks and dinner and enjoy each others company. i would never consider this group a subkrewe of threadhead nation, we are threadheads living in ny. i dont like being included as a subkrewe!

and i agree with neen, y'all better becareful of copyright infringement.....

FWIW, my (amateur) analysis on this is that people just want to be together, in whatever form that takes. A lot of us don't see each other very often, or just once a year, so any chance to spend some extended time together to catch up or get to know each other outside of the bored or a meetup at Fest is a wonderful thing! I know I would love to have a second chance to be part of the greater Threadhead community on the daze between.

Look at the great stuff that's happened since -- Fest4Kidz fundraising is over the top! :D

It's not a problem. As I said before, meeting up with Threadheads is a wonderful things.

I think it is the "Misfit" part that is kinda uncomfortable to some of us. I see Threadheads as positive, "fitting" kind of people.

(Plus the risk of copyright violation with the picture)

I can see this becoming a regular thing, as the Threadhead nation grows exponentially every year.

Having a Threadhead "Tumble" or "Bar Crawl" at the same time as the Patry, so that all Threadheads are partying together in some way.

It would be just as fun as the Patry and a great way for all the Threadheads to share the love.

It's just the name that bothers me. But hey, whatever.

Rossvegas

Well, I'm with you. If you absolutely feel the need to identify with a "group" (and I don't), then just be a Threadhead already. I saw the same thing happen with the Pet de Kat Krewe, and before you knew it, we had the Krewe of the Far Flung Kats, the Canajun Krewe and a whole bunch of others that watered down the "brand".

Speaking of that, I think there is also the danger of "Threadhead" becoming a "brand" if we're not careful. (I recall receiving semi-threatening emails about misappropriating the use of the PDKK name and how it was registered trademark - sheesh.) A we get more active in fundraising, patry planning and other initiatives, it's only a matter of time...

Remember, you heard it here first!

I think if we can live with threads devoted to boobs, spanking, and political discussions that blame the poor for their misery, we should be able to tolerate a few misfits running around the quarter together and calling themselves threadheads. And vice-versa. It just ain't that serious.

Context is more important than semantics. And words like "Threadhead" mean different things to different people. However defined, I know that being a threadhead is NOT about being of like mind on every single topic. I've found that it is more about tolerance...because there has been a consensus here that if you don't like a topic or a discussion, you should just click past it. If you can't stand the restaurant, don't eat there. And if you don't like the name, don't join in.

But I don't see why you would need to..because...I AM a misfit. And a curmudgeon, a gadfly, an eccentric, a geek, a loner. An olive-obsessed gourmand. And a threadhead.

Tell it like it...

I first thought of Aaron's song...

If you want something to play with
Go and find yourself a toy
Baby my time is too expensive
And I'm not a little boy

So maybe I didn't want to be called a toy...maybe Kitty could change it to the 'Krewe of Misfit Threadheads, Toys and Tools" maybe some of us guys would like that addition. But then again, I ain't no tool-smith and if you are the type that can build a spaceship with a couple of 2x4s and a Sawzall, you would never use a "Misfit Tool". And then what strange double-entendre would Muff come up when he saw that name...

So I just kept listening...

Tell it like it is
Don't be ashamed to let your conscience be your guide
But I know deep down inside me
I believe you love me, forget your foolish pride

This has become a very interesting thread . . . great discussion everyone!

I don't mind being called a misfit threadhead and/or toy at all! I always identified with them watching the special and I've always been someone who didn't entirely fit in a lot of groups at large . . . I hung out with the drama nerds/bohemians and hippies - not the jocks, cheerleaders and popular kids in school, for instance.

I'm perfectly comfortable and even embrace my misfittedness and and happy to pal around with others who want to share in that (even if they do have this unfortunate fondness for olives). Being a misfit isn't a bad/sad thing, y'all. :)

Don't know about the tool nomenclature though . . .

I guess it might be a rite of passage of sorts, if so it does make me sad. It looks like links to the Patry 08 are now off the Threadheads.org home page. I can understand why it was done, if it was intentional.

But I wonder, if we stay forever among misfits, will we find out who is playing at the patry?

Vicarious thrills are still, well. thrills.
