is this sold out already?
Could be.
Yesterday DTB and Funky Meters both sold out their presales, then for some reason tix were available through howlin-wolf and ticketweb @ least 12 hours before they were supposed to go onsale. Weird Stuff going on yesterday.
Earlier this week ticketweb showed that tickets were unavailable for Bayou Rendevous and Global noize. Tickets are available for both of those shows now.
I would keep checking Ticketweb for Funky Meters. You never know. Good Luck.

just got off the phone with Ticketweb, apparently I was not the only one calling about this show.
They don't seem to know what is going on either. They think that it hasn't gone on sale yet. Maybe some people got through to a pre-sale last night but the general lot doesn't seem to have gone on sale as of yet.
She told me to keep looking and maybe call back later.

I'd be extrememly upset about missing out on this show because they sold tickets earlier than expected. I hope they get it figured out. Glad I got mine during the presale, some weren't so lucky.

Huge disapointment for me. I expected alot more. I have chalked it up to a bad day and hope I get the opportunity to catch her on a good day! Mr. Soul ain't havin' none of it, though. He's still bitter ;)

Well, as much as I love Steely Dan's recorded music, I walked away from their Jazz Fest set somewhat underwhelmed. I've heard SD cover bands do a better job. No complaints, though, as in their heyday they were not primarily known as a touring band, they were more like a top-notch studio outfit. At their peak in 70s, I think they only played about 5 live gigs.
But, I had wanted to see them for years, so I satisfied my curiosity. And, they did play an encore, which is unusual at Jazz Fest. And, that tune was my favorite SD song, from my favorite SD album, and it was my runnin' theme song that particular day .... plus, I had a great time hanging out at Camp Potter w/ Amy, Jeff, Swampwoman, Mymecca, Pokerchick, Gumbo and others, so it was all good! It was a remarkably clear, beautiful day.
Csoul, you're a good woman.:)

They increased the price by 5 bucks. Imagine that. Still worth Every penny though!
Looks like the cost of the show went from $40 to $45. WTF??
Don't get me wrong, dTb and FMs are 2 of my favorite bands and I'd probably pay twice that much to catch this show. But what a mess this on-sale process has been. I guess they saw a big demand and figured they can squeeze out a couple more $ per ticket. Crazy stuff.

Yes I think the sale is indeed back ON! Yay!
Did any of yall notice the Festival in Alexandria, LA that's next weekend?
It's called Que'in on the Red (as in Bar-B-Que) and it features the funky Meters on Friday March 14th, and the Neville Brothers on Saturday the 15th.
In fact, the entire Saturday lineup is just sick:
Geno Delafose
Robert Earl Keen
Derek Trucks Band
The Neville Brothers
Oh my. It don't get much better than that! :D
And now, back to your regularly scheduled musings...

Now it is saying it is sold out, no tix available through TicketWeb, oh well, the HOB Trombone Shorty/Rebirth show is a nice consolation, I was just thinking it would be better to catch Shorty at the Blue Nile Friday, see FM/DTB Saturday, and catch Rebirth late night after that at Rock N Bowl.

so after a lot of trial and error including calling the 800 number (they told me it was sold out) I somehow was able to buy three tickets online. So I am short 3 tickets for the time being, and have 6 extras for Shorty/Rebirth! It seems like TicketWeb is sort of like the weather up here in Boston, "if you don't like it, just wait a bit, it will change!" I will keep checking.

Hey Now..... The Zigaboo Funk Review on the Second Sacred Sunday is one funky night for the ages!!! It usually starts late, (for years after the traditional funky Meters show at Tips) around 3 am, and goes till dawn. In the past, guests have included Art, George and Leo, Ivan, Cyril and Ian Neville, Camille Bouduin (Radiators), Jon Cleary, Henry Butler and many others. It is usually quite crowded when it starts- but as the night rolls on, people start falling by the wayside, and when its all over there is usually only a handful still on thier feet. It has been a highlite of mine for years, but as I get older, it gets harder to keep up the energy levels. That being said, I highly recommend it, if you are still up and at it after Dumpstaphunk. Hey Now Freebo, good to hear from you! We certainly seem to like the same music, you know what they say about great minds thinking alike..... I will be at Zigs blow out, but I might be the "mormon" holding up the wall towards the end, as dawn approaches. Its funny, I actually enjoy the show more at the end, when the majority have filtered out, there is SO much more room to move, which really adds to my enjoyment. Lets plan on meeting up before the Meters show, so we can raise a glass to Art and George, and to the musical joy that they have spread for all these many years!!! See you soon, Matthew

just 3 of your choices on a given saturday night are
funkyMeters and Derek Trucks
Mardi Gras iNdians, brass, Anders and bowling
Shamarr at the Rusty Nail aka Mermaid Lounge
Who was with me the night we could not find the Mermaid? Neen, was that you when we went to see All That there? And when we did find it, we couldn't get to it. It was... over there. We finally got close and the street was one way so we backed down to it. Carefully.

Hey Now Everyone, its too bad all lifes' tough decisions cant be as win-win-win-win-win as who to see and what to do during Jazzfest!!! Is there any time, any place on earth where we are faced with so many wonderful choices? An embarassment of riches, and this year (to me) seems even more abundant with musical rapture than in recent Fests past..... Whatever you choose, I am certain that it will the right thing to do, because no matter where you go, that's right where you are, so get a couple cold, colds and dance the night away! Have a great day, Matthew.

so from what i have read the show will go like this:

At first I thought it was bad news. Maybe they are hoping people will ask for refunds who are confused so they can raise the prices again, they have already done it once when they realized how popular this show was. Or maybe it is just an automated system where whenever there is a lineup change good or bad, it spits out the email to anyone who bought tix.

Chances are it's just another in a series of glitches ticketweb seems to be having these days. Probably just meant to inform ticket holders that Big Sam was added, which is of course fantastic news.

That was one poorly written email. I called TicketMud just to confirm my tickets were good. Turns out the email was to announce Big Sams Funky Nation. Look for another email if they add yet another act name to the bill.
Yeah, I had to read it about 5 times before I understood what the issue was...from what I gather, Big Sam's addition was the only difference. Could this show get any better??

Hey Now sleepymonk..... I grabbed two tickets, and have offered one to my friend, Dave, and he has conditionally spoken for it, depending on what his wife wants to do on that sat. night. That being said, IF he cant make it, I will have 1 extra, and it will be open to any one who needs it.
You mentioned recordings, and I have been looking for a couple of shows for a long time. Maybe you can take a look, and if you have copies, we could set up some sort of arrangement. I would love a copy of the funky Meters show from New Years Eve, Tipitinas 12/31/00 with the Subdudes--- A great way to ring in the millenium; and funky Meters from Halloween 10/31/03 at Howlin' Wolf, which was also a great night for funky fun, and I would love to hear them both again..... I have travelled far and wide to hear Art and George spread the Gospel, and those two shows were as good as it gets, it would mean a lot to be able to listen once more. If my friend dosent want the ticket, I will put your name on it, and what ever happens, I will keep my fingers crossed that you find your way to the wolf for the Big Dance!!! Best luck, Matthew.

You know it's Jazzfest season when
just 3 of your choices on a given saturday night are
funkyMeters and Derek Trucks
Mardi Gras iNdians, brass, Anders and bowling
Shamarr at the Rusty Nail aka Mermaid Lounge
Who was with me the night we could not find the Mermaid? Neen, was that you when we went to see All That there? And when we did find it, we couldn't get to it. It was... over there. We finally got close and the street was one way so we backed down to it. Carefully.
Yes, you were with me and the Atlanta Krewe (Julie, Chris, Dee, Gary). That was one great night. All That was smoking. SOmeone else played too - maybe Egg Yolk?
I loved the Mermaid.

Ah, I didn't dream it. Here's what my electronic receipt says:
By choosing UPS or US Mail, it does NOT mean that your tickets will be shipped out immediately after you process your order. Tickets will be shipped 10 business days (approximately 2 weeks) before the event date. If you have not received your tickets one week prior to the event date, please email tix@musictoday.com immediately. Non-delivery claims must be made no later than 48 hours prior to a weekday event and no later than Thursday evening prior for a weekend event. Day of show and weekend requests for assistance cannot be honored and no refunds will be made. Note: UPS does not deliver to PO Boxes.

Oh boy, do I have a story to tell!
The envelope came in the mail about ten days after I ordered my pair. BUT, there was only one ticket inside, and it was for Murder By Death at some club in Chicago....
So I called TicketWeb immediately and was told not to worry, they would void the original tickets and send out a replacement pair. Said I should receive them in ten days or less.
Ten days went by- still no tix. So i called again. This rep said the first rep was way wrong, that they need to receive the incorrect tix before they will send replacements....
So I sent them Priority Mail yesterday. I'll let y'all know what happens.

In all likelyhood it is bs hirsh....I have worked several venues in the Boston area and we often have times saying stuff like that in an attempt to minimize scalping for future shows but there really is no way that they can track it to be honest with you
I have always subscribed to the thought that it is bad karma to sell over face (except to maybe split the ticketbasted/web fees etc)

I wouldn't expect to get Derek Trucks fan club seats until at least 14 days prior to the show. If you are already off to the fest and still haven't received your tickets, call the phone number that they gave you when you ordered. They are usually good about working with you. They might reprint the tix and leave them at will-call if necessary.

it's OK! by next week we'll all be having the times of our lives and as my bandleader says, "one monkey don't spoil no show", which I'll take to mean in this case that one event out of hundreds in 12 nights won't make or break the deal! ;)
I think I've shown great restraint in not grovelling to an acquiantance who (ahem) manages 3/4 of one of the bands... but if I run into him in town, all bets are off! LOL ya heard me, Phil?

I guess I'll ask this question here.
What's the problem/issue between the Meters and Modeliste and Nocentelli? Why don't they play together still as the original four?

oh, boy... that could be a whole thread unto itself. I don't know the half of it, but music biz insiders were so stoked about the last reunion that they dropped everything to go to a handful of shows across the country. I was shocked to find out that Zig was living in Emeryville/Oakland since his move from New Orleans, and hadn't really played out much until relatively recently. The story you may hear from everyone, except possibly George Porter, Jr., is that their individual creative input was under-appreciated and under-credited. It's a sad evolution when a seminal band doesn't reap the appropriate financial rewards, but it's safe to say that none of the members was 100% responsible for the success or demise of the Meters.
Check out Art's rap on the band getting left behind while their musical "offspring" hit it big in "Make it Funky". He keeps it real without being maudlin or too bitter about the past.

Thanks but that more or less tells me why they didn't get what they deserved. Why don't they play together? Are there personality conflicts between the members?
Everytime I inquire about this issue, it's like people are afraid to discuss it. LOL What's the deal?

well.... my $0.02 worth... there is probably tension - but I'm not close with any of the four. From interviews, I've gathered that the sum of creative and producing input from each member would be about 350% if you totaled what some members believe their contribution to be. They can't all have been responsible for 100% of the hits.
They all seem very gracious and appreciative of the fans' adulation and support, but I wonder how the past royalties and earnings have maybe poisoned the well somehow. Not to put too fine a point on it, but if you want to hear the music frozen in time, you will probably be disappointed by an original Meters reunion - but it's nobody's fault. People's talent evolves and if they stay topical, the music migrates away from the original pared-down funk on those classic sides. I love Leo's fire and his chops, but sometimes I close my eyes when Ian Neville's on guitar and it takes me right back to the old school.
confession time? For me, the New Mastersounds do the stripped-down funk thing as well, and as disingenously, as anyone. For heredity's sake, I go see the various original Meters alumni in as many settings as I can during Jazzfest!

: OK Meter Freak,: You got me LOL hard' hard' hard', and if I though that could happen I would call, better then
: that why have Leo put out a new recording of all this new Meters sounding music with one of
: His many bands, O' I know because Leo may have wrote the music but He did not play it, Zig,
: Art and I play those songs that He wrote, also He only wrote the change's He did not write out all of our notes that got played.
: Though You may want to know that.
: porter, jr.
Mr. George Porter,
This is directed to you, Sir. If you can recall, I posted a blog complimenting, the funky Meters', a great message board.
I ended my blog with a phrase, that said, "LET'S MAKE PEACE".
Your response, to the blogger, METER FREAK, in regards to my, songwriting talents, for THE METERS was contradictory to my, LET'S MAKE PEACE" statement, as well as, inappropriate and very derrogatory.
You seem to try and trivialize what I gave you, and the rest of THE METERS. Trust me, George, I'm not going to let you or anyone else, do that, to me, EVER, AGAIN.
George, I have NEVER tried to say anything, personally, directed to you, to deminish, your talent, as one of the world's greatest bass players, as you seem to want to try and trivialize, my talents and contributions, as the major musical songwriter of THE METERS' music.
My songwriting accomplishments, speak for themselves. Such as, the two songs, that you, yourself, selected and recorded on your new CD. Lonesome and unwanted people, (WORDS & MUSIC) by Leo Nocentelli) and Out in the country (WORDS & MUSIC) by Leo Nocentelli , which are JUST two of many of the songs that I wrote for THE METERS, in which, I might add, you did a good job of those two songs, on your new CD. Thanks.
Let me give you a peace of, GOOD advice, George. As you saw in my email response to, Kent Sorrell, I can be dangerously deliberate for what we all know is " THE TRUTH", and should not be challenged, by you or anyone else, when it come down to me exposing what we all know about any, TRUTHS verses any PROPAGANDA. George, let's not make any future, blogs, on this message board, in the image of that, Kent "Sorrell, email response, of mine, in which you are in receipt.
That being said, George, I would suggest that you be, very, very, very, careful as to what you say, that's, personally, directed to me or about me, Leo Nocentelli.
I have never visited this funky Meters' message board, as often as, I do, now. I visit it, only, to defend my integrity, because so much negativity, that has to do with me.
I have no control over bloggers or fans, of mine or yours, for what they say and how they feel, about me. You don't have any control, either. Whether it be pro or con.
Incidently, to all bloggers, of this message board, if any one person deserves to continue, the GUITAR legacy, of what I started with, THE METERS, it is, Ian Neville. I have much respect for Ian. On, numerous occasions, Ian has come to me to teach him some of my licks, that I performed on some of the Meters' recordings, that he didn't quite understand. My intentions for teaching, Ian, some of my personal licks, was for him to carry on, my GUITAR legacy of, THE METERS, to add to and with his own pesonal style.
George, without digging into my bag of truths and exposureS, I will end this blog, by giving you something serious to think about, before or if you decide to answer, this blog.
IF THERE IS ANYTHING THAT I'VE LEARNED IN MY LONG TIME, ON THIS EARTH, IS THAT, "THE TRUTH" IS A POWERFUL WEAPON. "THE TRUTH" COULD MAKE YOU CRY, "THE TRUTH" COULD MAKE YOU ANGRY, "THE TRUTH" CAN DESTROY YOU AND "THE TRUTH" WILL DEFINITELY, EXPOSE YOU AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, IF YOU TRY TO CHALLENGE,"THE TRUTH", THE "THE TRUTH" WILL ONLY EXPOSE YOU MORE.
Leo Nocentelli
: : Your true words hit home to me and should hit home to everybody who visits this great message board. I do understand that you and Art was a part of the Original Meters and yes, you should be able to perform all of the songs that you were involoved with.
: : I would be ever so happy to hear new material by the funky Meters, this year. I have a suggestion. Maybe, you and Art can get with Leo and collaborate, with him, since what I am hearaing, is that, Leo wrote most of THE METERS music. I have heard Leo on a few of his gigs. He has featured several new songs, that reminded me of the Origianl Meters. Which gave me the idea that he could let the funky Meters record them and maybe write some more for you guys. What do you think?
: : Either way it goes, I will always be a devote fan of the funky Meters, George, Art, Russell and Ian.
Leo sounds bitter
George being exposed? yea expose him all you want as one of the most badass musicians on the farkin planet!
