With mad props to Jim Henson, bless his soul...

"Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
And rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and me.
Who said that every wish would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that, and someone believed it,
And look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing
And what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers, and me.
All of us under its spell,
We know that it's probably magic...
... Have you been half asleep? And have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
... Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors?
The voice might be one and the same
I've heard it too many times to ignore it
It's something that I'm s'posed to be...
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers, and me."

Looking back at this thread, it's kinda spooky how prescient yall were...

I mean, it ain't Marcia Ball, but the poster IS set in the swamp!

And it ain't Kermit the Frog, but it IS Kermit on the Congo Square edition!

Hmmm...

Anyway: Last night my wife called my attention to an ebay item that is the FIRST Jazz & Heritage Festival poster. When was that, you might wonder?

1968!

Whew. That's old.

Wait! Can I take that back? ;)

Anyway, until they sell - here's the link:

The seller is also selling the 'handbill' from that year. It's actually like a concert list and ticket order form. Check it:

What really kills me is the prices!

http://i1.ebayimg.com/04/i/000/e2/0e/2c60_1.JPG

Man, four night concerts for a total of from $12 to $20!!!

That's for all four!

And who played then, you might ask?

Some posers named Louis, Pete, Ramsey, Dave, 'Duke', and Woody.

Did I mention: Hmmm.

That's pretty cool! But starting bid $250? No wonder there's no bids yet.
