You know, I can't look at Da Bears without being reminded of a great Yogi episode. He read in the paper that some defenseless Bears were going to be playing a group of Giants from New York and he had to get out to the stadium to help them out.

I hope Yogi is there to help his "defenseless" Bears next weekend - they're gonna need all the help they can get! :>)

And I'm glad we haven't descended into trash talk.
Like, someone might say, "We're gonna come up there and spank the Bears so hard and long they're gonna oui-oui in their speedos."

Obama to Saints: 'This fairy tale ends'

Associated Press
Published January 15, 2007, 3:45 PM CST

HARVEY, Ill. -- New Orleans' football season is all but over.

That's the message Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has for Saints fans when their team comes to Chicago for Sunday's NFC championship game.

"The Bears are going to the Super Bowl," a gleeful Obama told reporters Monday outside a church in suburban Chicago. "I am happy for New Orleans. I think it's a wonderful story for their city, but this fairy tale ends when they come to Chicago."

(and no, he hasn't "announced" yet)

All right, Jonny, after giving this some thought, I had an idea for our wager that would allow us to have some fun and also benefit the local music scene. How about the loser buys $20 worth of patry raffle tickets for the winner? The winner would get more chances at some neat stuff in the raffle, and the extra ticket sales will directly benefit The New Orleans Musicians Clinic (or whatever other well-deserving charity the committee decides on for this year). If you don't like the $20 suggestion, name your poison! (I was trying to save a little "dry powder" in case any other Chicagoans want a piece of the action! I'm good up to $100. First come, first served a chilly bowl of bear stew!) Or if you have some other wager suggestions, let's hear 'em.

Yesterday I made a bet with Tuba Phil of the Rebirth Brass Band on the game this weekend. If the Saint's win, I have to send him some Lou Malnati's pizzas.
If the Bears win, they have to play the Bear's fight song "Bear Down Chicago Bears" the next time they play at Martyr's here in Chicago.

To Listen: http://www.crstager.com/mp3/Solti-ChicagoSymphony-BearDownChicagoBears.mp3

BEAR DOWN, CHICAGO BEARS

Bear Down, Chicago Bears
Make every play, clear the way to victory!

Bear Down, Chicago Bears
Put up a fight with a might so fearlessly!

We'll never forget the way you thrilled the nation
With your T-formation

Bear Down, Chicago Bears
And let them know why you're wearing the crown!

You're the pride and joy of Illinois,

Swayed? A little but remain loyal to the team that brought the nation "Sweetness", the "46" defense and a stadium (that remains) named for those who serve our country.

I was just talking to another Chicagoan that attends the fest and he feels the same way. It's like choosing which child you love more.

We also believe in fairy tales in Chicago. Our sport teams tend to be really sucky or tragic.

MWgirl, I'm basing my prediction on the "nerve" card. As good as the Saints were the other day, the pressure of playing at home in that Dome must have been incredible. Once they are on the road and have absolutely nothing to lose (and Chicago has to face some hometown nerves), look for Grossman to turn over the ball at LEAST twice...and that's two touchdowns!

I agree that the statistical possibility of Grossman turning over the ball twice
(alright it's a given!) is valid, however, that doesn't necessarily translate into two touchdowns. Also, I think the offense will show up for the game.

Pressure playing at home? Maybe last week when everyone was on Grossman (and Smith for that matter). Everyone loves a winner.
The majority of teams have better home records than road records. That's why it's called "home field advantage."

I was in New Orleans last weekend when the Saints played the Eagles. This being the third time back since Katrina, it was amazing how many people were there and passionate the fans were. I almost wish the game this week would be in New Orleans, their economy could use it more. There were quite a lot of Eagles fans that came into town. The majority of them partied before the game at the Frat House on Bourbon St. While the Old Absinthe House had all the Saints fans. Each side yelled their cheers and wore their colors. It was very cool to see. While I wanted the Saints to win that night, there I stood on Bourbon St. in my Bears jersey. I definitely got my share of comments, most people seemed shocked to see a Bears jersey. I just told the Saints fans that I was cheering for them that night, but for next week I was here to serve them warning. I've done Jazzfest 14 out of the 16 years and love everything about the city of New Orleans. My heart and wallet have gone out to the people of New Orleans on what they have gone thru and am very happy for them that the Saints have had such a great year. But that's where it has to stop, the Bears are my team! Go Bears!

A Chicago woman was making pancakes and when she went to turn one over there was the Bears "C" logo burnt into the pancake. They showed it on TV and it looked very much like the logo. The reporter then went on to say the pancake is now in her refrigerator and tomorrow she will be putting the pancake on top of her TV. It's definitely a sign. I'm going to go shovel snow instead!

I'm not nervous today; for some reason, I feel calm.

Brrr, who said brrr? It was actually warm yesterday. Much better than the 12 degrees we were skiing in at the Dells on Saturday.

Great season Saints. I hate that we had to go through you to get to the Super Bowl. I hope to see you back next year.
