What the hell was I thinking? My daughter just turned 12 and told her she could have a sleep over for 10.. She asked them and some said they could not come so she invited others. Well the first ones did come and the others too.
I am dying here. (16) 12-13 year old girls for the night. We got through dinner, cupcakes, presents and now the power company is shutting off out power from 12 midnight to 10 AM. Where is my sense? Guess I lost it and can't find it. Sounds like one of my Lucinda songs..."JOY"

I am sorry honey - I promise I will buy you some bourbon or whatever else you want when we get to jazzfest...but for now....

you're a good mama and all of her friends will be envious because NONE of their mama's will ever let them have a sleepover like that..... :)
ps - what's up with the power company and their insanity??? I swear - if you call them and tell them you have 16 12-13 year olds in the house for a sleepover - your house may be the only one on the block with lights on........

Belle, been there, done that. Sometime I wish my little girl was still 12 (she's 19). Time passes too fast. You will look back and laugh about this night.

That is a great idea for sure. I remember crapping myself when I was their age on that. The power of the mind.
I have to leave now as they are playing DDR and I am going outside on the porch to retreat for a few.
You guys mean so much to me! Now about that bourbon! I will take a double. The ABC stores were closed today and tomorrow for some fricking holiday. Geez I planned real bad.:o

Thanks for the memories, Lynda. As I sit here sipping my favorite bourbon (Woodford Reserve), and remembering my daughter's sleepovers, I'm having some very happy memories. Thank you.
Besides that, you'll have a great story to tell.
Don't let'm call boys.

ok three AM and just had 15 girls screaming at the bedroom door. Apparantly someone (a boy from school I suspect) sent them a text message saying they can see them! Jeez so after a walk around the house and letting the dog out I cannot sleep myself. This is going to be a long night.
The power is still on but they are dreading when the electric company shuts it off. Me too!

I remember those sleep over days with Sammy and her friends.....
p.s. thanks for the Lucinda song....I've been listening to that version by Betty Lavette. Lucinda is a great song writer.

Oh Gawd, Belle. That brings back memories of my daughter's first (and last) big slumber party. Most were in the 6th grade. All 12 of them from her dance class, after the big recital. All night long, they were yowling and howling. It was awful.
At about 4 am, they were still in high gear, but I managed to nod off in my room upstairs. Then I heard a knock at the door, and muffled crying and sniffling. I opened it, and there stood little Heather. She was a bit younger than the rest, and not quite as "worldly".
Me: "What's wrong Heather?"
H: "I wanna go home."
Me: "Why?"
H: "Allison called me a f*cking a**hole."
I said, "Well, then don't be one." I was too tired to even laugh.
Belle, you will look back on your daughter's party and laugh!

When I was 12 (many many moons ago) I had a slumber party with 8 girls.. My Mom put the dog outside on the patio for the night so he wouldn't bother us. Well about midnight the dog and a skunk got into a fight and the dog won but wouldn't let the dead skunk go. (after he had sprayed the whole side of the house where we were partying. My mom had 9 vomiting girls and one very stinky dog on her hands for the rest of the night. I neverr had another sleepover LOL.

Ok an update!
They are still here and the power is still on!! Fed them breakfast and took them on a long walk to the river. On the Loopy swing till I was gonna puke. Named loopy cause it just goes in circles..in fact it is the best rope swing hanging from a really huge oak. Did the trampoline for awhile.
I am pooped. Now they are playing "soulja boy" so loud and playing musical chairs...no they are arguing really. I swear I could smell the pheromones in the house last night.
So I will look back on this with fond memories? Each and everyone of them is asking to stay for this or that reason until afternoon..grr. Got the house they all come to and never want to leave.
So the dryer is going round with shoes that have been soaked with creek water. The dog got into the cupcakes and chocolate and is miserable. The work crew is here working on the kitchen, the girls are driving me nuts. At least my own boys had the good sense to find a place for the night! Lucky them.
I just love you all and maybe I will look back with fond memories but for now I am renting the local pool and activies room for next year.
What was I thinking?

Belle,
you have to be doing something right - 1) they let you take their picture and 2) they are all smiling.
And that they want to stay - well, count your lucky stars.......

Last update
It is now 26 hours and they are all gone. Loralee has had a shower and is bed. One boy has returned, one had a gig and will be home later. Best of all the ABC store was OPEN. Had an adult beverage, dinner, shower and life is so good.
Thanks for all the hugs. This is the place to come to smooth nerves. Work tomorrow but I am relishing the moment of just my family here.
Hugs everyone

No truth or dare and no boys so spin the bottle was out too! For now she still thinks boys are gross. She is into sports and studies at the moment. Hope she is quite different than me during the high school years....I loved boys and still think the male species is quite interesting...frustrating but wonderful.;)
