Great post, Amy!! :)

Yep, definitely count me in as one of the very happily ensnared . . . I loved New Orleans deeply before, when I was just a regular annual visitor . . . but every day that I'm here as a resident New Orleanian, that love just grows more and more (yesterday was an exciting day - I got my New Orleans Library card!!!) . . .

This was my first Mardi Gras and I now know why New Orleanians get so very excited about carnival . . . I understand the madness and gladly join in it.

Indeed, the longer I live in New Orleans - the less fit I am to live anywhere else. :D

Hey - I still have my New Orleans library card that was issued in 1987.... They have a good library system.... I can't wait to use it on a regular basis again.... :)

That is one of the best quotes I've ever seen, ZK. I wish I could claim it for my own http://www.nojazzfest.com/chat/images/icons/icon6.gif

And there you have it....in a nutshell! I was about to light up the grill except it is raining.... but then the sun comes out....looks like another FUN day in Nola....
The music bleeding out of every corner bar....I live it and I love it.
Abita anyone?

We're in our "glorious weather" season right now (well, except for the downpours, lol). :D

Right - I guess yours won't be kicking in for awhile yet. All the more reason to pay us a visit I think. ;)

I think the sentiments of the lady in the letter truly capture the feeling we THs all feel when leaving NOLA each visit. Some of us are lucky, or crazy maybe, to be able to make the move, some of us pine for it immeditately each time that plane starts to roll off the runway but either way we all know what it means...I cannot wait for my first full MG next year and hope all that desire the move are able to make it.
I was talking to a couple of girls at a restaurant the other night and mentioned that I was moving here in June and one of them made mention of how the city was "dead" and would never be back-after asking her if she had been there if she had been there since the Storm and getting the reply "Oh I have never been there" I just laughed and said "Well Darlin' you don't know what dead is because you haven't lived til you been to New Orleans"

Rad, I LOVE that last line...."You haven't lived til you been to New Orleans!" So true. That should be a new slogan and on tee-shirts;) So many people have misconceptions about the state of the city since the storm. They just assume it is all in shambles. Sadly, too much of it is in terrible shape, but these folks think it's flattened! I always clue them in on the latest....telling them of things that have reopened and come back, and of course, that I go and have a fantastic time EVERY time! Every trip there is a trip to the Holy Land so to speak. The emotions it evokes when I'm there, and certainly the sadness when I leave indeed makes this a holy place for so many of us. And walking through the gates of Jazz Fest on that first day.....amen!:D

Too funny. I still have my 1986 NO bicycle tag, I taped it up with waterproof tape so it will never fall off. Not good anymore but I still like to see it...
When I moved away from NO it was one of the saddest days of my life, alas there were very few tech jobs available there in the late 80s. So I moved back here and started rebuilding my career and life.
After K I thought (for a while) that this might be a good opportunity to get back and start again from scratch. Didn't do that and I regret it at times.
Highest respect (and envy) for Zkitty, Tangie and others that came to a new situation, and for all that came back and rebuilt. Love for y'all.

More likely, you gotta be dead (in spirit) if you HAVEN'T been to NOLA.

It's never too late. that's all I'm sayin'. It could be complicated as all hell - and knowin' your last year + has been a bit (ahem) on the difficult side - to say the least - it's understandable.....

A great article Amyloves... speaks to how we all feel.

I had the displeasure a couple of weeks ago to have a conversation with a couple at the Cocker/Barnes concert. They informed me that we couldn't possibly go to Jazz Fest because the City was drowning in Yellow Fever. You can imagine my reaction. He HAD been for a visit last year (hmph... supposedly), but informed me that Bourbon Street was dead... just like the City. Wish I had some of the above quotes to use. Instead Kenny dragged me away lest I become violent.

Yellow Fever?!??? There hasn't been a yellow fever outbreak here since like 1903!!! What a nitwit (no offense) and I would have been hard-put not to smack him myself, Tan! You showed great restraint. :D
