Irma Thomas, Bonerama and Amanda Shaw will perform opening weekend at the world class Turchin Stadium II in New Orleans. The new Turchin is one of the finest college baseball facilities in the country. Tulane's team opens as #22 according the BaseballAmerica.

Tuesday, April 29 b/w JazzFest weekends will have the Greenies hosting Nicholls State Colonels. Always a fierce intrastate rivalry. Also the 2nd weekend will have Fri. and Sat. 6:00 pm games to check out after the music.

Tailgating in the Claiborne median or where Rosen House once stood.

I know there are some baseball fans here, so I thought I'd bring it up. Could be a good time for a mid-week meet.

Oh, BTW, opening weekend will have:

Prior to the season-opener vs. Illinois-Chicago, local legend and Grammy Award winner Irma Thomas will perform the National Anthem, and a brief fireworks display will take place.

On Saturday, "The Boys Are Back In Town Block Party" will begin at noon and run up until the 2 p.m. gametime along Ben Weiner Drive. Live music will be provided by Bonerama . Bonerama will perform the anthem prior to the ballgame, and former Tulane standout and American League President, Dr. Bobby Brown, will be on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Sunday, as always, is Kids' Day at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. Kids will be able to stand next to their favorite Green Wave player on the field during the National Anthem - which will be performed by Louisiana singer and Cajun fiddler Amanda Shaw - and they will also have a chance to run the bases at the conclusion of the contest. In addition, members of the 2008 Green Wave team and coaching staff will be on hand after the final out is recorded for autographs and other fan interaction.

Now that's a pretty good opening line-up!

That sounds like fun, except that Tuesday is the Patry and they don't play again until the weekend. I'm thinking about coming in on Sunday so I can catch the Zephyr's 2pm game. This year they are out of town the whole second week, but I was going to come in on Monday, anyway. I'm sure most everyone who's in town will be out at the Fest, but if anyone is interested, the more the merrier!

I'll be in the Claiborne neutral grounds next Sat. morning, with a maroon F-150 and bloody mary's, gin/tonic or just cold, cold beer for any who wants to stop by and enjoy some BONES before an afternoon of baseball.
