As you know the Picayune last Saturday had some mean things to say (http://www.nola.com/news/t-p/editorials/index.ssf?/base/news-4/1202538180169240.xml&coll=1) about him. The result, I think, is that his core supporters harden their resistance to hearing such criticism. It's like, when Pres. B*sh went into Ir*q, and right off you could tell he had no idea why he was there or how he was going to accomplish anything. It was obvious. And the result, it immediately became suspect and unpatriotic to mention how dumb the whole deal was. At what point does a voter say "Oh no, what a mistake I made at the polls!" instead of "Well, I sure better give my guy more time to get it right, cause I told everyone if we didn't reelect him the world would end."

I'm not certain that's the case - my next door neighbor is a teacher at an RSD school (she just hired on this school year) and she said that he has zero support among the staff there. He is disliked for all kinds of different reasons, but she said she doesn't see any support for him at all - and they are an example of his core constituency (at least what it used to be).

It's actually an infuriating picture - with the violence that plagues the city (although, I have posted elsewhere that the violence is very much like that in other cities - but New Orleans is, to it's credit - more open about it in many regards (not all))...
it is actually an extraordinarily irresponsible position for hizzoner to find himself in as a 'leader'. such an uphill battle for those who are trying to provide opportunities for children and citizens to make different choices (eg Silence is Violence to name one), and to promote an image campaign for the city that doesn't include violence as one of the top 5 things that come to mind - because there are SOOOOOO many fabulous things about my favorite city in the WORLD.
Mr. Nagin - just step down already - for the good of the city.

What's even more unbelievable is the fact that Riley finds it funny. What ignorance!
