Not sure if this has been discussed since last night. But the Album of the Year at the Grammys was a JAZZ album, The Joni Letters by Herbie Hancock. In his acceptance speech he mentioned that it had been 43 years since a Jazz album had won album of the year. This is great for Jazz!!!

Overall I thought the awards and the show were much better than in recent years. I had given up watching it because it was just toooo pop for me. Is there actually better music out there... or have the grammys changed????? This years program was more balanced, and very exciting to have a jazz album win!!!!

This is one time that having the writers on strike actually paid off and made the production better. No host, no lame one liners, and much more music. Although the presentations all sounded the same ,no doubt written by the producers who were taking a stab a being a writer. The show flowed much more fluidly than in past years by going from presentation to performance without any fanfare or interruptions.
Congats to Herbie. I could not believe a jazz artist took the top honors. I bet Kanye was pissed.
