Did anyone else just see them on the Grammys?
They stole the show last year at the fest... wish they were coming again!

I did. Gospel segment with them, Aretha and BeBe Winans, the Clark Sisters, and Israel and New Breed. It rocked.

Wouldn't you know I got a phone call just before they came on? Since I never saw them at Fest, I have to assume they were the massive horns that took me away from that phone call. So glad I got it recorded to see again (and again).:D
From the T-P:
A real buzz: The cast of dozens for a rousing, over-the-top gospel medley included Bebe Winans, Aretha Franklin and a little-known trombone collective called the Madison Bumble Bees.
Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich first discovered the sanctified South Carolina ensemble in the Gospel Tent during the '07 Jazzfest, at the suggestion of his buddy, Jazzfest producer/director Quint Davis. Eight months later, Davis helped arrange for the Bees to share a stage with Franklin at the Grammys.
So now you know... the rest of the story.

Did they play on Lagniappe too? I saw them last year at congo and gospel, but they had many more folks. Is it possible that clip is from another fest, or did they just do a set with fewer bumblees?

I found this little blurb about their appearance on the Grammys - it was a direct result of their appearance at Fest last year.

no way around lovin' the babb an' those bees... that clip was indeed fest,.. w/ fewer bees as you mentioned... near the close on sunday,.. second to last set on the lagniappe stage....
was way fortunate enough to catch the full joy of their 1st three sets durin' those last two days of fest 07.... quite unfortunately,.. missed the whole of their last appearance... i blame it on makin' a back track run from steely dan ova' to catch the last of joss stone.. afta' catchin' but a few seconds of her as she left the stage way early,.. i made a quick turnaround and quickly headed back to catch the end of s.d. (no way near cool as the bees at any point)... by doin' all that fast movin',.. ended up forgettin' i was supposed to go the otha' way round and catch the last set of the bees before endin' the fest with jr.... if that silly lil' joss had played her full set and i didn't require all that additional amount of "refreshments" (from all that runnin' around) i coulda been a contenda'.......
my choice to return for the 2nd weekend was still way up in the air late into the night on that "moist" 2nd friday... as i sat at home in fla. and kept lookin' at the next two days on the schedule and considerin' if trompin' through the mud and heat would be as fun as it sounded  ,.. it was the draw of seein' an unknown band that was scheduled four different times,.. on three different stages,.. in the next two days that proved to be the final pull... that,.. and the full knowledge that a few hot muddy days in New Orleans beats the heck outta anything else...
a quick trip to southwest.com and priceline (hello there mr. 4 star for $50) and there i was bright and early sat openin' that glorious mornin' with none otha' than babb an' da bees at the Congo... love at first sound/sight... also had to love seein' that the giant mud puddle i was expectin' was no where to be seen,.. and the weather was perfect....
the absolute musical and spiritual highlights of the 07 fest,.. in my humblebee opnion... was the buzz that Madison's best brought to be...............

I would agree --and wish Quint, Ken Ehrlich, or anybody else would bring them back and get them to record something. It's a crime (ok not really a crime, but a really, really, really sad thing) that jazzfest live didn't record those bees. So please bring them back, get them to cut a CD, or this Yank will just have to invade South Carolina some time soon!

can not bee-lieve that babb and his hive tain't comin' back to town this year....
with that in mind,.. so very, very glad we got to experience that incredible joyous explosion of theirs more than once last year... deep soulful talent like that shoulda instantly bee-gat an automatic annual invite to the fest....

I believe they are substantially the same group recording as the McCoullough Sons of Thunder from my old post #13 in this thread:
