Lafayette-area artists are poised to make history today as the winner of the first zydeco/Cajun Grammy, which will be awarded this afternoon at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The honor is among 98 of the 110 Grammys that will be issued during the pre-telecast, which can be seen between 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at www.grammy.com.
The remaining Grammys will be given during the CBS prime time broadcast...
Terrance Simien and Zydeco Experience also make history today as the first zydeco band to open the pre-telecast.

Starting in 8 minutes....
What a horribly designed website. Those flash menus at the top of the home page are almost unusable.

No question. And they couldn't get their fancy Microsoft Silverlight thingy going in time to get Terrence Simien's number onto the webcast.

It's not a bad telecast now that it's up and running. Levon Helm "Dirt Farmer" just won best folk album Grammy, which is fantastic. And Steve Earle's latest just won as well...

Just realized Dirt Farmer won in the traditional folk category, Steve Earle in the contemporary folk category.

You bet! What a great acceptance speech, thanked his wife who was instrumental in getting this new category approved, and Music Cares. Sounded like a lot of cheering for him too...how nice!

And world music awards, Soweto Gospel Choir got one and Angelique Kidjo the other. I'd much rather see this on prime time tv than the usual pop stuff. Look at Pinetop and Koko!! And Honeyboy!!

And now Robert Randolph is doing the presenting -- he is such a cute boy!
Have they given out the blues awards yet?

This is much better...now if we could have some more performances, and the artist accepting in person, NOW you're talking an award show for us!

How about KEELY SMITH! I thought she was great. It would be great to see her at Jazzfest, especially if she could patch things up with and perform with Sam Butera.

I'm so incredibly excited for Terrance and Cynthia. They both worked so hard for this. Does anyone know if Terrance's acceptance speach is available on line anywhere?

I've looked, but haven't been able to find it ... hoping the performance would be there. I remember him coming out with the band, saying something funny, thanking his beautiful wife for persevering in getting the award, and saying it really belongs to all the nominated La. bands (slight dig at the non-La. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCVZdWMGXYg) nominee (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llHKUzjggg4)??) and he would kindly keep it at his house for them to visit.
