Hey Now--- Just read that George Porter mentioned that Quint has scheduled the P.B.S. set before Widespread Panic on Thursday 5/1. I think this will be a musically complementary pairing, and hope that it turns many new ears on to Porter-Batiste-Stoltz, as they certainly know how to lay down the funky groove!!! Have a great weekend, Matthew PS- Porter also mentions that there will be PBS night shows BOTH weekends.....

MM - thanks for that one, although it probably means Mr. Soul & I will miss PBS at the fairgrounds. We don't get into NOLA until mid afternoon Thurs. By the time we get to the hotel & check in, I think we're gonna' miss 'em. Good to know we'll have the opportunity to catch them at a night show!

save a few minutes by just dropping your luggage off with the bellman, and check in that night AFTER fest. Every minute at fest counts!

Yeah, still gonna' be tight. Plane doesn't land until 3:30. Last year we had to wait for about 45 minutes at baggage. If there's any way we can do it, we definitely will!

In 1999, Panic had 2 back-to-back sets: 4:15-515 and 5:30-7:00.
In 2001, Panic had a double set, playing from 4:05-6:50.
In 2003, another double set, playing from 4:30-7:00;
In 2005, another double, same time slot.

Mind you, I don't recall seeing another act get scheduled in advance for a double set, but Widespread has had it 4 times now. I don't know exactly what compromising pictures John Bell has of Quint Davis, but that's a topic for another thread. The point here is, if I was planning to catch whatever act plays before Panic, based on recent history, I'd want to be inside the Fairgrounds by 2:30 or so.

Perhaps DELTA will allow us to parachute out as we fly in over the fairgrounds.......That doesn't sound good for us.

Hey Now Swag.... Do you remember what the set up was re Widespread Panics' set in 1997? (my 1st year).- I remember on sunday of 2nd weekend seeing part of George Clinton+P-Funks show and having to scoot out early for the Panic set (which was just the standard 1 hour+ slot) Then when they were finished, hightailing it back to see the Nevilles close down Fest.... Some of the best 14(!!!) bucks I ever spent. In many aspects, that single sunday changed my life permenantly. I have never missed a Fest since.

Hey now, Matt. That sounds like quite the day. And you completely skipped the Rads, too!

There's a Google search box on the main page of http://jazzfest.swagland.com. Type in "Panic" and you'll find it pretty easy.

But for the lazy, here's the direct link:

Are you kidding me??? Bonerama into PBS into Panic?????????? HOLY NOLA! All I can say is break out the blankets and lets get comfy for one incredible stretch of amazing music. I cannot see myself being pulled away from this stage for more time than it takes to go get a beer!! I hope that this is the way it will be scheduled, I was worried about missing Panic to see me some PBS! C-Ya'll @ the show(s).

As we know all things are subject to change.... but so far !! Yes indeed that appears to the current master plan of our man Quint :)
We should make a plan for some prime space sharing :) last year the only problem with standing room was I runnin solo... so a potty or beverage run nearly always cost me a primo spot.

I am always down to share some "group space",this is always a great way to ensure alot of real estate for mingling, dancing and just plain comfort. There will be 4 of us in my "krewe"(not sure if I am allowed to use this krewe moniker, hehe, consisting of two 9-10 year vets and a 6 year vet. Me I am on year 2 of hopefully MANY more to come. Generally we are a nomadic tribe, but I think that this particular trifecta could hold me to one spot!!

Hello,
Just wondering if anyone else thought about the chance of the Lee Boys sitting in with Panic. In 2007 they sat in with North Mississippi All-stars for a few songs on steel then the drummer and rest of band jammed with NMA. The fit really well with NMA!
