I may be completely off my trolley here but i've been thinking about all those musicians and wannabe young musicians who have lost everything including their musical instruments. I don't know about you guys (and gals) but whenever i hear a particular instrument played well i want to learn how to play it too. I am absolutely not good at learning musical instruments but that doesn't stop me trying!!:o so i have in my house a number of instruments that i have no chance of ever getting right and that i haven't touched for a while. These include a drumkit, a sax and a clarinet to name a few. (am presently trying acoustic guitar, my partner plays trumpet)

Anyway to the point of my thread, i wondered if any of you are in the same boat we could all bring and donate one musical instrument to the jazz fest (perhaps use wwoz) for a young wannabe or a regular musician who would like to get his/her life back towards some kind of track. I will be limited as i'm coming from uk but could manage the clarinet. what does anyone think??

I have a spare clarinet that someone gave to me. I'd love to pass it on to a student from NOLA.

New Orleans Musician Relief Fund accepts donations of instruments ---

If you have a musical instrument that you don't play anymore, we will find it a good home in the hands of a New Orleans based musician that lost their instrument in the flooding. We are seeing a need for all types of instruments, but electronic gear (like microphones and amplifiers) are being requested in the highest numbers.

That is lovely, trad!! If you would like to ship any of that to NOLA, I'll be happy to give you my address and either pass it on to the NOMRF (with proper credit given to you, of course) or hold it for you/JF to take it to them. :)

Crikey... your house sounds like ours!

I tried to snitch the older one's clarinet before our last visit but he wanted to keep as it was a wedding gift (from me)... I'll have another go. In the meantime I'll have an ask around.

Good onya Trad!

ib,

Please email me if you can at blues.girl at comcast.net. On of our local NO restaurants might be able to help out as a benefit Mardi Gras patry thing. I talked to the guy today and he is thinking about it.

OH, we had this idea of donating an instrument to a musician as a raffle prize -- think that's a good idea, would people buy tix to be the one named on the donation?
