I know that most of you don't rent cars, but I have friends in Baton Rouge and I'll probably make at least one out of town trip during Fest and my hotel is out by the airport. I got a compact for $19 a day at Avis though Priceline. It seems like it's a good deal.

I'll be traveling w/ family and they'll be staying in Baton Rouge with our dear friend, I hope to go up a time or two...I might just get one for a day or so..instead of trying to pay the parking lots in the FQ. I've stayed out in Metarie a couple of times, I really liked it, this is my first year stayin' in the FQ. Thanks for the heads up...

I rented a car during festgiving and the Frenchmen's garage (what the hell is the clearance on that roof anyway?) was full up. I parked in a lot right behind (well a short block's walk) for short money (at least in Boston parking rates). think it was 7 bucks for 12-24 hours. Certainly a hike from the Canal side of the 1/4 but from Frenchmen it was right dere.

Since I got the car, maybe I could interest other THs into a road trip? At least to the drive thru daiquri? :D

If you really plan on a roadtrip, head down to the bayous and do a fanboat ride. What a howl! Especially if you get the right boat captain. Tell them you want a 6 seater and do not want the tourist ride. Then when you get there, tell him there is no way he can scare you. Then hang on! One of the best things I've ever done. If you're going to do it, let me know and I'll get you the contact info for the last one we took, (been a few times).

Been there, done that. :D It was a blast, but I don't want to do it again. I like my food & beer in my stomach.

Bluesgirl, what days did you get your car for? I am planning on going to St. Amant on Monday (day after jazzfest ends) for a couple of days. St. Amant is 30 miles south of Baton Rouge.
Looking for that great deal you got. Did you name your own price?

I got mine for pick up first Friday AM (4/27) to day after Monday (5/7) AM. I did name my own price. I started at $18 and went up a $ and got the car.

There is only one road-trip worth going on...(shameless plug)..Rosetree Glass Studio!:D ;) :D . The Threadhead Nation (love that term) is welcome to come on over and watch us create our art. It's a must see. And we give a TH discount! We got high recommendations from many THs. .....o.k.I'll end it there :D

Thanks for the heads up on good lots though, maybe some other folks will be able to use it....i'm still thinking 'bout renting for a few days, we'll see what my g'friend in Baton Rouge says.
I think road trips are a great idea, believe me there is SO much to see, go south into Barataria and Lafitte area, great restaurant called Les Familes....oh man...you have to hold your onion rings on a string like a balloon they are so light!!! I've done the plantation tours, i love those too, there's a couple w/really decent luncheons. I like going to the local supermarkets and mom and pop stores.....it's like food archeaolgoy~~ i've brought home some great stuff over the years, much to the delight of my friends back home.
I dunno about the airboat rides. I took one, my first NOLA trip actually, down in Lafitte, with Capt Tommy. It was an adventure, and I didn't get sick or get a grasshopper in my eye. BUT, big BUT, the locals are VERY divided (i mean the locals to the small towns to the south) on the ecological implications of the air boats. I've canoed in the bayous, and the intercoastal waterway, sailed on Lake Pen, taken a small boat (saw a really neat graveyard on that trip), got to hold an aligator, and fed marshmellows to aligators (also, divided opinions) I've loved every minute of my road trips.
I guess my bottom line is, don't be surprised at the "competition" for your dollars by the airboat captains and the more natural-style tour captians,

As soon as I find out when the patry is, we can schedual a "Threadhead" day at the studio for one of the remaining daze. We can do a small patry ourselves...wine, munchies, etc...It might be a way to do some meet-ups before or after the fest depending on which weekend you come...just a thought:D

The Patry is Tuesday May 1st.....that would be fun Mark! Thursday is a good day although that's Chazfest. Not sure if I'd be going to that anyways though plus your gallery would be a nice change of pace :)

Sorry about the thread-jack bluesgirl.:(
The Thursday between will be fine IF we are in Contemporary Crafts the first weekend. If we get in for second weekend, we set up on that Thursday. I will post here as soon as I get my notification and we can make plans!
Ohio: Yes you can watch us work, you will even be allowed back in the hot shop to be near the heat  We don't do that for everyone, just special people. ;)

Why thank you NYMAMA!:D Did you buy the piece at Jazz Fest?? What kind of bowl was it? So, now you are going to have to come over here when we have our patry...
Ozzie: Yes, you can take the ferry, it's the easiest way. The ferry carries cars also, but it is not mandatory to get here. We are only eight blocks from the ferry landing (an easy walk). If it is raining, we can even pick you up!

YYR I bought it a the fest. It's blues with brown and with swirls. I have it displayed with a light underneath and it's beautiful.

Well.....I had to cancel my reserevations to show the hotels, convention folks, and city nincompoops that I meant business with my letters...not just blowing smoke. Now got to rebook all over again should things really improve and they don't just pay lip service. So I get to decide all over again which weekend. No way I can do both...taking a bunch of scouts to The Northern Tier in June for two weeks.
Whatever, I absolutely want to try to plan on making the patry, volunteer again, and get to Rosetrees!

We'll plan on leaving Wed and Thurs open for a patry! As soon as I know which week-end we get in (assuming that we do), I will post which day the meet-up/patry is so people can solidify their plans!
Thanks :D
