Dog lovers: Barkus pictures

In case you don't know, Barkus (a play on Bacchus) is a Mardi Gras parade for dogs. It's "for dogs" in two ways--dogs dressed in their Carnival finery "march" in the parade, and people bring dogs to watch the parade. So there's thousands of dressed up dogs in the Quarter all at once--much fun and chaos.

Barkus 2008 was yesterday. The theme was Indiana Bones: Raiders of the Lost Bark.

I caught the Barkus Parade for the first time a couple of years ago. We had a great time! Just had to watch my step in the quarter for awhile afterwards . . .

One of the signs said 'Krewe de Peaux'.... wasn't sure if the 'peaux' meant paw or poo!

This is absolutely the best! I love these photos!! I've always wanted to go to Mardi Gras, but resisted because I have a fear of being loo-less, if you know what I mean.

Maybe the notion of seeing Krewe of Barkus in-person will get me there.

I'm so glad you all like these pictures--Barkus is truly one of the best parts of Mardi Gras.

I just added a gallery of "pre-roll" Proteus floats, shot at Mardi Gras World--you can see details you miss while the parade is rolling. There are also shots of the artists' drawings of the floats.

Thanks for posting your great pics 995webmaster. My sweetie Jon and I were in Nola last weekend and caught the Barkus parade...it was a hilite for sure, we just loved it! :)
