I'm thinkin it's ... if you like what somebody else won, better than what you won, you can make trades...
That's kinda what I thought.....
I guess anything is possible if you are at the drawing and want to negotiate.;) :D

Someone wants to give me a "championship golf bag" (whatever that means) that she won at a golf event, with the idea that I would then pass it on to the threadhead raffle. Sounds good to me, but assuming she comes through, would that be a suitable raffle item?

Hey all you cooks.....
I contacted Wendi Schneider, a fine art photographer and designer based in Denver. She used to live in New Orleans and work for the T-P. In 1987 she designed, art directed, photographed and with the help of many others basically put together the Picayune's Creole Cookbook which is an updated version of a classic cookbook orginally published in 1901 that the T-P put out as part of their 150th Anniversary in 87. She is donating a copy for the raffle, (I think signed by her) and it's a really beautiful gorgeous book.
Check it out here http://www.creole-cook-book.com/ and look at some of her other work. A very generous gift to us from her I think.

Those championship bags are really big and heavy - so rather than ship to NOLA and back out, it might make sense for Lester to ship directly to winner?

I'm planning to donate several heavy cast-iron, fleur-di-lis trivets, that also have a hook on them to hang on the wall as decoration. I'll take a photo soon. Plan to donate 5 of them, if the store still has them. I'll find out next week.

Glad you got the items from Chaz. He emailed me on Sat. and said he was getting the package into the mail. LOL I forgot to let you know:o . I thought maybe you could put together 2 packages 1 mens and 1 ladies (a cd of each album and a t) However the raffle gods want to post them is good .

I'm (finally) getting all my video on dvd. I have all 3 Patries, plus instore performances for many people since 03. A few peeps should have received a copy of Patry 07 in the mail recently. The 07 Patry alone is 3 dvds long. 06 is 2. Havent done 05 yet.
Im not sure how to package the dvd sets- probably do a few Patry sets (05/06/07), then some instore sets by year. Or, I could do sets by performer- i have a few different sets by some bands like Theresa, Iguanas, Papa Mali, Dirty Dozen that span the years.
I also have a few club videos from bars in Baltimore- Leo Nocentelli and Iguanas.
All of the videos arent pro quality- they are shot with a handycam, sometimes on a tripod, sometimes not. Overall, I think they are pretty good audio and video quality. Its stuff like the youtube video I posed last year.
Thoughts on how I should bundle them- year, performer, etc? Im thinking year.

Hey Brian I think by year would be better. At first I thought by performer but by year would give the viewer a variety and anybody who went that year can relive the memory.

Doctor, doctor...I'd love to see last years... I sort of got overrun by the sun in the middle of things and had to go to Juls hotel room to lie down for a bit. My heart medicine doesn't like me being out in the sun much... so I missed a chunk of the day before returning at dusk... No, I didn't bring Dusk back with me!

I'm going to say close to 150 -- can you believe it! The site will only take 200 so we may have to save some for next year if they keep coming like this :) The value of all the prizes donated is also going to be phenomenal.
The next big step is going to be publicity and getting lots of folks to buy tix -- last year the t-heads did a fantastic job of forwarding to their contacts and we hope for the same this year.

well word up then...i just peeped out the threadheads site, and saw that it was finally up (kinda)...last i checked it was just the countdown clock.
i also realized that the person i bought the beer from, who kicked me the zulu social club beads after a hefty tip on a 20 pack of MGD last year was probably a threadhead! as i recall, i bought the beer, i tipped, the person selling the beer was like "nice tip! you need beads", but there werent any beads to be had (so it must have been second weekend since they were out already)...so to make a long story longer, the saleslady made someone else in the beer tent take off their beads and give them to me...
they are currently hanging affectionately off the closet doorknob in my office!

back in the early/mid 90's i made night time grids using TSO doucments. i had to make the boxes with ----- and / for the sides. i dont think we even had | back then. no fonts. no colors. printed it on a line printer. luckily there were only a few clubs on the list. got all my information from the offbeat magazine my friends had delivered.

My heart medicine doesn't like me being out in the sun much... so I missed a chuck of the day before returning at dusk... No, I didn't bring Dusk back with me!
Wow! you rock MD! I'm bidding on that for sure!

well word up then...i just peeped out the threadheads site, and saw that it was finally up (kinda)...last i checked it was just the countdown clock.
i also realized that the person i bought the beer from, who kicked me the zulu social club beads after a hefty tip on a 20 pack of MGD last year was probably a threadhead! as i recall, i bought the beer, i tipped, the person selling the beer was like "nice tip! you need beads", but there werent any beads to be had (so it must have been second weekend since they were out already)...so to make a long story longer, the saleslady made someone else in the beer tent take off their beads and give them to me...
they are currently hanging affectionately off the closet doorknob in my office!
w00t.
If I'm not mistaken Aardy, that was my loverly wife Nanc and I that gotcha yer beads. Sounds too familiar. Was a hell of a tip too if I remember corectly. :)

Here's another prize that was just donated. It's a signed framed print as shown from artist Diane Millsap. Diane lives in the north, but spends a great deal of time in New Orleans and most of her artwork is New Orleans related.

Nice. I have a couple New Orleans themed original paintings by Diane Millsap. She does great work and the prices for her paintings are still affordable. She sells primarily on E-Bay - here is a link to her site.

Jeff,
As a matter of fact, I have another signed Millsap print at home. It is not framed, but still in the tube. Way down on the list of things I need to frame so may as well package it with this other one for the raffle. I think this is it:

Hang in there, KateMW! The year with my 4-year old was tough, too. She was bad-awful! I'll always fondly recall when she kicked me in the face on her 4th B-Day. :D
Just a part of their development.:) Neither one of us was scarred for life. She's 18 now and a total great person.
The worst thing was when I desperately consulted a child-development book at that time, and the "experts" said your 4-year old is the preview of your 14-year old! Of course, by the time she was 14, I had ten more years of parenting under my belt, and it was not as bad as they predicted.
It's all about autonomy for them, and I generally think that parents who try the hardest are often rewarded with the worst behavior at 4 years. Besides, I always heard that "The Terrible Twos" was from age 2-4! :)

I visit this site a few times a year and I was shocked to see one of my prints as part of the raffle. I published "Uptown Revival" by Diane Millsap and I also have another print "St. Charles Revival" by Millsap. I would like to donate it as well. Can someone please send me an address and maybe some details and I'll send the poster over.
You can see the print at www.nawlinsart.com which will forward you to my website. I also sell a lot of jazz fest art if anyone is interested.

Got a challenge for those that have not YET done so.
This is a cut and paste of an email I sent out to friends and family. I hope all here will do the same. And I challenge the many guests that drop in and enjoy this bored to join in this great effort by wonderful peeps for a wonderful cause.
Friends and Family,
Most of you all know how much our family enjoys and loves New Orleans and want to share something that I am a part of this year and encourage you help me.
Below is a link for the Threadhead raffle being conducted to support New Orleans in the only way a Jazzfest Message Board.could.
All efforts of this raffle will directly help the New Orleans Musicians Clinic and Fest4Kids.
This is not an auction but raffle chances on a wide variety of items including: Collectibles, Food and Drink, Tickets, Art, Gift Packs, Music, Posters, Books, Apparel, Saints Gear, Travel, Jewelry, Photos, and where nothing fits the category of Other! Last year I won several items for such a deal and also support New Orleans music culture.
When you open the site for the Threadheads take a moment to read about us and the charity work we do. On the menu on the left in a link for the 2008Raffle. Look around and buy some chances on these cool items. Brought out the tools and made three gourds under the art section.
Here is the link
http://threadheads.org/
Please consider helping with something I am proud to support.
Thanks Lynda

Thanks for the kudos everyone. The whimsical NOLA gourd and the southwest gourd are 8-9" diameter kettle variety and they are about 8 inches tall. The Fleur-de-lis is a canteen gourd of the same diameter just shorter (about 5 inches tall)

Well, we didn't do a 50/50 because of charity/tax/paypal, blah blah blah issues, I guess the same applies for straight donations. I would just encourage people to buy tix -- even if they don't like anything (is that possible??), prizes would make great gifts :)
And we love raffle-o-holics here, you are all very welcome (but don't expect to receive treatment!) ;)

Steffie, the NOMC is supported by the LSU Healthcare Cooperative & Daughters of Charity. I would suggest contacting the program director:

to see if they accept the donation of medical supplies. If they do, I would be MORE than willing and happy to accept your donation and take it to NOMC. Thanks.

Well, believe it or not, although I work in a music and video store, aside from Chef Spicer and the people at Bayona who donated last year, I had never met or dealt with any of the people who donated prizes this year. And I definitely didn't use where I work in the pitch or I'd get my butt canned. Just sent the email from home and hoped for the best. I don't think that speaks to my persuasive abilities as much as it speaks to how much people still care about New Orleans. And that is a very good thing. :)

This was a late addition, it's been up in the gift pack section for about a week but I wanted to confirm details before I posted.......
Any Levon Helm fans out there?
The prize is a Dirt Farmer CD, a RCO All Stars Live CD (New Years Eve in NYC, Levon, Dr.John, Paul Butterfield and more), Vol 1 and 2 Midnight Ramble CD/DVD, a ramble T-Shirt.........
and a pair of tix to an available Midnight Ramble show at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY. These are intimate shows with Levon Helm and guests (seat maybe 200 people) and they are very special.
Plus the area around Woodstock is absolutely gorgeous with plenty of things to do. A perfect long weekend or vacation.
Here's info on the cds http://levonhelm.com/store/index.html
Here's the website http://www.levonhelm.com/index1.htm
And here's info on the area www.woodstockchamber.com
This is an amazingly generous donation from Levon Helm and his management.
Much like New Orleans, he has given us so much amazing music and battled some hardships as well and came back. Just listen to Dirt Farmer.
Please visit his sight, but a CD or 2, or some ramble tix and show some love.
