We may have had bigger named acts in prior years. This year, the biggest I see is:
Music Makers’ Relief Foundation’s Blues Review featuring Boo Hanks, Macavine Hayes and Eddie Kirkland
Some other BNA's this year are:
The Throw Back Jamm feat. Joe Blakk, UNLV, MC T. Tucker, Dolemite, BustDown, and Cheeky Blakk
Original Prince of Wales and the Original New Orleans Lady Buckjumpers SAPCs
Golden Comanche and Chief Iron Horse & the Black Seminole Mardi Gras Indians
Val & Love Alive Fellowship Choir with the Dimensions of Faiths
Just BIG names, n'est pas?

Hey, Ross. Let's keep that Irma Thomas secret to ourselves, o.k.?;) After last year's set, there may very well be a line at the gospel tent all week to get into that one!

Front row last year, my friend. In a word......INCREDIBLE! Made my heart sing, literally.

Especially if you spell out "featuring."
On top of that, even though I don't know who Rachelle Richard is, Irma and Marva together in the gospel tent are worth a hundred BNA's of the "fame" variety!

We missed BOTH of her performances last year. We went first Friday and Saturday and I think she performed first Sunday and second weekend. We did catch Marva Wright doing the Gospel Brunch at House of Blues in 2005.

Well, last year Irma was set to play around 1:00pm on Sat. I think. Mr. Soul & I stumbled into the tent around 11:15 - 11:30 needing a seat to place our hungover bodies on. THERE WAS NO ONE IN THE TENT. You literally had your choice of seats. So we went about mid way up the tent and sat down. As the sets opened & closed before Irma, we just kept creeping up front. By 12:45, we were in the front row, and I swear, I was scared! That place was PACKED! Security was freaking out, people were everywhere. It was insane. We missed a couple other acts we wanted to see that day, but it was well worth it to have those seats for her tribute to Mahalia. Best move we ever made, and we were only there because we were too hungover to stand or walk. Go figure.

Stevie Wonder.
I don't know if your math works using that BNA variety...

Hi Ross, don't know if you're kidding, but I meant names that people who don't know anything about New Orleans music would recognize ...

Oh yes, Stevie or at least his band will be peeking out the back of the Acura stage wondering why everybody's over in the gospel tent!

So that was YOU in the front row? kidding...
I placed my chair stage left just off the plastic chairs, and went out to see a few things....braved the crush at the door and came back in 30 minutes before Irma's set and found my chair precisely where I left it -- friendly neighbours held down my spot. Cried through the whole set, probably the most uplifting thing I have seen in the gospel tent in my Jazzfest history. I am such a blubbering idiot...:o

Big Cheif Peppy and the Golden Arrows are awesome - I went to see them do Indian practice at a tiny little bar here once. Someone told me that he is Mahalia Jackson's nephew (or great nephew maybe) - anyway, he can SING.
