View Full Version : YES, ANOTHER Brass Pass question

okay, i know i'm driving people crazy with my Brass Pass questions - but from what i can tell, it makes sense to wait until WWOZ's spring drive to "buy" the brass pass - can someone let me know when the Spring Drive is? (for purposes of my attempt to "budget" .....) - thanks!
I think it is usually in late March or early April...

Oooh, this is going to be tough . . . I like to buy my tix the minute they go on sale, but this year I want to get a brass pass during the spring drive. Will I be able to be patient?? Do they ever sell out of brass passes?
Not that I know of. And you can get it now from WWOZ, it is just a matter of whether you want to wait for the spring fund drive to see what other "goodies" they might offer up.

YES AMY - i'm in the SAME boat as you - i want to buy the Brass Pass NOW and have it in my hands, but a very small part of me wants to hold out to see these possible "goodies" ...... can anyone shed some light on "goodies" from past spring drives?

Email Robin and just say that you want your passes in hand but that you'd also like your $$ to count as part of the Spring Drive fun. They are so appreciative of your support I'm pretty sure they'll be flexible and send your passes now and goodies later.

Amy, Last year they DID SELL OUT (http://www.nola.com/weblogs/print.ssf?/mtlogs/nola_nightvision/archives/print134657.html)...I think it was first time that it has happened.

Holy cow, that seals the deal, I'm emailing Robin and buying now. I'd rather have the passes in hand than goodies.

Since the Thing, extras & goodies have been greatly reduced just by virtue of the fact that there are fewer places to give and and the ones that are left aren't as able to donate. I suggest getting BPs as soon as you can afford it and feel good that you have your BP and helped one of the best radio stations in the world. :)

Did she say they were mailing them out this year. Last year, after the thing, they handed them out at Whole Foods on Magazine.

Jenn, when I paid I had the option of collecting them from Whole Foods (I think only on a certain weekend), or having them posted. We decided the cost to post to Oz would be better spent on a CD or in a bar so they are holding for us to collect just before Fest.

Almost got it right...
Hi Tanya,
I'm happy to report that the brass passes & overpasses have arrived! We will have a WWOZ table at Whole Foods, 5600 Magazine Street this Saturday & Sunday, December 16th & 17th from 12 noon to 4 PM both days to distribute them. If you are in the neighborhood, drop by and pick up your passes.
If you are not in town or cannot come by either of those days, not to worry. There are options! If you prefer, e-mail Robin, our membership director at Robin@wwoz.org and arrange to pick up your passes at the station during business hours. If you live out of town and would like to e-mail us your fedex account number, Robin and Elisabeth, OZ's "brass pass lady," will happily fedex your passes directly to you.

I just got my welcome package as a new oz member, and Robin's note said I could have it sent with a FedEx account number or I could pick em up jess before Fest. Think I'll call her tomorrow & see if she'll take a credit card number... for some reason I need the security of knowing its in hand b4 I get there.

Just something I had to "settle" for at lunch at the Bourbon House during the daze 2004. Seems the line at Acme was too long...

As I recall, we then wandered over to the river to catch Kermit at Mofest , caught an in-store and then ended the day at the Saenger Theater with good seats for the "Make it Funky" concert....then the next day was just as special...gawd I miss Nawlins!

Hey y'all--I got my Brass PAsses (and so far ONe of the two hoodies and cd's) during the fall fund drive. I went and picked them up at the 'OZ offices and met Robin in person--nice gal indeed. I offered to volunteer at Whole Foods for the days before the fest for Brass pAss pick-ups. If they take me, I'll be there, hopefully I'll get to meet some more t-heads.
Is it really only 3 1/2 months away??

Brass pass is definitely the way to go, especially if you can go both weekends. And it's a great jazzfest memory to hang on de wall next to your jazzfest posters!

We just got our Brass Passes and they say "enter at Sauvage St. Gate Only" We typically take the Express bus from the Sheraton, especially second weekend when we have a large krewe going out at once. We have been able to use our brass passes before at the Express bus entrance. Since everything is now scanned I don't understand why we are limited to one gate only. Does anyone have any insight? We have emailed WWOZ and are waiting for a response.
Ms. F, give Robin a call on Monday, she seems to be the BP expert...

Ms FnG, please let us know what you find out. We always park and enter at the Gentilly entrance so I'll need to know.

In the past, I have entered the FG at gates other than the designated WWOZ BrassPass entry. You just have to wait in line like anyone else who holds a standard ticket. One of the features of the BP is that you don't wait in line to enter.
As for going in the WWOZ hospitality area, you usually are given a plastic bracelet at the BP Fairgrounds entrance. I guess you'd have to pick one up eventually to go to the 'OZ area.

Hmm, curious to hear too as this is our first BP year! Sauvage is Liuzza's side so no problem the first day, but looks like we'll be at Gentilly stage a lot this year so we'll probably want to enter Gentilly side a few days . . .

Ditto.
Although we're staying at the other end of the Quarter this time so I guess we might look at another way of getting there. Gots to go look at the bus thread and try and figure that out.

I am hoping this is the answer. The last time we had brass passes, I remember there was a dedicated line at Sauvage entrance, but we could use the passes at any gate by just waiting in the regular line. If this is still the case then all is well.
We will report back on what Robin tells us from WWOZ. Thanks for the helpful info.

I thought I might should pass this info along...the wife received an email from Robin about Brass Pass pick ups before the fest.
Basically it said if you purchased a Brass Pass, Over Pass or tickets from WWOZ, you can pick up your tickets and passes at the station @ 1008 N Peters St. (where St. Phillips meets the river, in the French Market Corp. building) from 10 AM until 5 PM, Monday through Thursday, April 23rd through the 26th.

I'm getting a ticket (not a Brass Pass) to the Fest as part of my recent pledge to WWOZ, and like the Brass Pass, that will be available at the station for pickup until 4/26, then available for pickup at the Sauvage St. entrance.
Just so ya know....
