I notice that the Lafayette fest has set up a tribute to Andy Palacio of Garifuna Collective ... he died just a few days ago. Kudos to Lafayette for putting that together so fast! Also, the Duhks on two days! I was in a hotel room in San Diego next to the Duhks for three days, and they practiced and jammed with visiting musicians nonstop the entire time. Then they and The Mammals would go parading around the hotel grounds. It was great. Go see them!

I HIGHLY recommend that everyone who is in town for the Jazz Fest try to catch some of this festival - it is really amazing.

I am headed out there for the 24th. I went in 2006. It is a great fest and a lot of fun. Not like Jazz Fest, more laid back in a way and in the middle of town. The food was awesome there, too. :D

For all of those who are interested, and want to check it out - they have their own site. I don't think that NOJHF would mind me posting it here because from what I have seen on these boards the people who do post seem to be all about promoting the festival - but Louisiana as well. If I offend, sorry.......

That's probably an evening show. We might go too, if the restaurant Tsunami (http://www.servingsushi.com/Awards/Awards.asp) is open that night.

Any hotels that turn up on the regular sites are fine. My sister has stayed here, a few miles out of town (http://www.cajuncottages.com/) and enjoyed it. There is plenty of parking in the city around the part of downtown where the festival is held. We pay a little to stay in the First Methodist lot on Johnston & Main Street just because Methodists seem like nice people.

Out on Evangeline Thruway is good if you have a car. When I stayed on Oct., I stayed at the Extended Stay near the airport. I've also stayed at a very nice Marriott which is also near the airport. Some friends have stayed at a B&B downtown and they liked it.

Will have to check them out. Thanks for the info, I trust your taste in music.Thanks. I've seen them a couple times, once w/ Bela Fleck (I think he produced their last cd). A compelling mix of roots, folk, soul, irish, zydeco sorta thing. and the gals are kinda cute too!
