Swag et al.- you are right on. For my flights I paid $359.00 for non-stop, direct flights from Newark, NJ - New Orleans. (that includes 45 dollars in taxes and fees). I booked last week.

Good for you. Not a bad deal considering I paid around $380 for a similar itinerary from Newark in late October. Continental has been quoting +$500 for direct flights. I guess I'll have to check again & see if prices went down.

Oh - yeah - definitely look and *try* to be flexible....at first I was getting quotes for $665.00 and up.....(ah, hell no - I'll drive down and back before I pay that for a flight...okay - maybe.....).

I have a friend who is going down on one airline and back on another to make it within budget.....direct flights each way...so you might want to look at that too. Gone are the days of round trip, direct flights for $225 and less......

For you Chicago folks, I just read where someone referred to New Orleans' location as the intersection of One Millionth and Harlem. ;) ...Jazzfest must be getting closer because I just sent down half my payment for the place I stay weekend # 2..

$288 for me and an average of $338 for my wife and kids. All on Southwest. Non-stop and good flight times. Midway is more of a hassle thoguh, probably add about $50 for additional transportation costs for my wife and kids.

One of my favorites of the whole series...although 1996's Pete and the Blue Dog is also very cool, and the 2006 Congo Square is fantastic and Wynton 2002 is very special and I really love the Matisse-like Harry Connick 2004 (something about the art of mimicry that reaches me) and 1994, although I have it only as a two part tile, might be the most festive of the bunch.

When visiting a certain gallery in NOLA, my wife and I always remember that time, years ago, we were in Jackson Square and I really liked an artist there...his work was an obvious homage to Van Gogh but with a fresh distorted twist that really captured New Orleans. Paintings were "only" a couple of hundred as I recall, but this time the fact that our small house was already full of art (and this was quite a few posters ago) won the argument over my heart.

We didn't buy the two I had chosen that day and I (we both actually) have regretted it ever since. That artist was, of course, Michalopoulus (http://www.michalopoulos.com/) whose originals, even before he did his first Jazz Fest Poster, went quickly out of our price range. The end result is now we still don't have any more room for new art, but when I see something I love and can afford in New Orleans, I get it.

Didn't catch him in 2003, but we now feel very fortunate to have been there in 2001. (There is a DVD of the 2001 performance available.) I hope that ,somehow, some way, there will be one more chance to catch Fats at the Fair Grounds..especially for those fans who have never had the chance to hear him. For you would experience waves of iconic sounds from the dawn of Rock and Roll that will reside with you forever.

And this goes to how I feel about seeing the Nevilles close out the fest one more time....who knows how many chances we will have? If you appreciate the Nevilles or even just think you might, and you haven't made the pilgramage to the last set at Jazz Fest...make your plans now. No finer vibe have I ever experienced at a music fest.

I'm also well into the fifties myself but in the thirties as far as progress. Trying to open up a three week window...frankly because my foto shop/etch a sketch time will disappear once my garden proves that it really is under all that ice and snow.

Looking back, I think "someone" should have saved the guy above (whom we met walking from the Chateau LeMoyne over to Johnny's Po Boys a couple of years ago...I think) for today! NOW its seems a natural fit.

I'm hoping that Saturn and the Soft Shell boys (OK...now that's a name for a group) get some company as we get closer....so start working on your own personal final twenty or dozen or ten (or ONE).

Fest is coming...and WOO-HOOO, I really need it this year.
