Ain't that the truth! I'll have to practice counting and adding at the speed of light while holding big fat stacks of wet money. :)

If it's any consolation, it's gonna be freakin' COLD! Not that that will stop anybody, but if those parades have to stop and sit for any length of time (which they always do) there's gonna be some freezin' folks on those floats. If they bundle up too much they won't be able to throw. :)

It was pretty cold in 06 too... I remember my friend Jean asking me if I was warm enough, she was freezing, when we went to go see Chaos and Muse. She had on a sweatshirt and jacket, gloves and a scarf. I had on a sweater... like a regular sweater and tossed my wrap in the bag for my throws. I was fine, after being used to it being so cold up here... and we still didn't have any heat at Nick's house at that time... but I was loving being there anyway. We'd warm up after the parades by going to Le Bon Ton and getting a burger and a few drinks.

It's 14 degrees F here right now, but the skies are so clear and beautiful... no snow, amen.

Can't wait to work with Ms. Lena and her Krewe. :) Silly, but some of my fondest memories are slinging beer and handling wet money, working with and meeting other Threadheads and some of the " beer patrons".
I will never forget one of the days I was working and the cheeky sky opened up and cried on us and made lots of puddles. I can't even imagine what the thing was like and my heart ached for those I was working with when I looked into the eyes of some of Ms. Lena's krewe and knew what they were remembering. That I will never forget and bless all of those who dealt and are still dealing with the aftermath of the thing.:o

Yeah - I was working the tent last year too when it was cryin' on us and the water rose in the tent..... it was pretty obvious what everyone was thinking - but we were also having a little bit of fun with it.....

Ms. Lena and her krewe are the BEST. I think one of the best things about Fest is volunteering there. no doubt.

Me three!! It was an impressive downpour and did have folks wondering about the pumps and drains, etc. . . . but we did indeed make good fun out of bad weather. :D I was SO impressed with the few brave (inebriated?) people who did risk being washed away to come buy (REALLY) cold, cold beers from us in the deluge. Then the food booth who sent someone over with hot food in a covered pan to sell from tent to tent (smart thinking, that one) . . .

Can't wait for this year's Miss Lena Brigade shifts!! :)

They make my favorite NOLA drink there, better than anywhere else, too... a Red Snapper. Crown (of course), Cranberry, Amaretto... another very healthy drink... Rye - a whole grain, Cranberry - an antioxident and very healthy fruit, and Almonds- the best, most healthy of the nuts. Couldn't ask for mo' better!

I love the burgers too, not nearly as good as Cooter's but they go down so easily after a parade, or any other time for that matter. I hate being in town and NOT going to Le Bon Ton! It seems criminal! Le Bon Ton and Frankie and Johnny's... seems I have to go to those two places just to be sure I'm really there. LOL

Sorry if this is a repeat request. I tried searching for the thread and didn't have much luck. Seeing as this year I will be there a whole week, I would like to do more volunteering during non-fest days. I am still going to sign up to help Ms Lenas sling drinks a couple days. So, that being said, who would you guys recommend I contact that needs volunteers the most. Animal shelters would be one good idea. Thanks kids.

Howdy, darlin! How you doin?? I hope all is well with you.

Just as an F.Y.I. - the Grids are the lists of the apres-fest entertainment options (that MD Fest, Dank_Bass and other excellent volunteer threadheads put together) and the Cubes are the detailed schedules of the entertainment at the fairgrounds (created by Quint and NOJHF staff). :D

I sure hope you do join the wild and krazy krewe at Ms. Lena's this year - it's great fun! :)

Hey CBH, do volunteers have to be over 18? One of my Festal

Louisiana law requires beer slingers to be 18+. We are also supposed to CARD those who appear to be under 21 (amazing how many faded away or changed their order to a coke when I asked for an ID). They suspend the licensing requirements for volunteers at Fest, but rules for the rest still stand -- we don't want to get Zulu busted by the ABC.

CBH...... is that possible to trade, give up, share a shift?
What if someone wants to do an hour of relief work, is that workable?

I would be willing to give up my 4P-6P shift on 1st Friday OR at least an hour of it, if it's workable.....

Does anyone who is working Ms. Lena's on second Friday need a ride to the Fest?
Mrs. RT and I are working and we would like to park in the volunteer parking, so we need riders!

Susan, what is the latest on the volunteer parking? I thought someone said somewhere that it might be moved this year?

Sounds like the parking will be offsite at City Park and volunteers will be shuttled in. The final meeting is tomorrow night and she will let me know the particulars then.
