Just killing time while we wait for our big Jazz Fest Daily announcement later in the week. What movies and/or performances are you hoping get nominations? My picks for best picture:
5. Black Snake Moan: If you were to make a movie about the blues this would be it. Very brave (and HOT) performance by Christina Ricci.
4. The Lookout: Love this film. Great heist (with a twist) story, well shot, and great performances by the kid from Third Rock (sorry, I can never remember any of his three names) and Jeff Daniels.
3. Juno: Don't buy into the hype that Knocked Up and Superbad are the new faces of comedy (they were not that bad, but they were not that good either). This is the 2007 comedy that truly delivered. Great soundtrack.
2. No Country For Old Men: Absolutely amazing even with that ending that kinda sneaks up on you. The best film villian since Dr. Lecter from Silence of the Lambs?
1. Into the Wild: Perfect. Sean Penn should be nominated for and win an Oscar for his direction of the true life story of a top of his class kid who flees the corporate America future laid out for him to go to Alaska and rough it. Great looking, involving story, wonderful ensemble cast, meditative soundtrack by Eddie Vedder. I was in tears at the end of this film, as were most of those who were seated around me.
