If you haven't seen it, there's a great retrospective of Tipitina's in this week's Gambit:

What a fantastic read! Had me laughing so many times -- I am going to keep this to "enlighten" any virgins I take to Fest in the years to come. It's hard to express what Tip's is all about prior to someone's first visit. They usually get it within their first 15 minutes inside the door though!

Thanks BigDag! :D

Excellent article. Lots of fun and it captures the magic of Tips and other clubs of it's ilk. Like the article said, they aren't rock clubs, jazz clubs etc.....they're MUSIC clubs. I always felt at Tips and (since I'm from here) some the NYC places they mentioned EVERYONE there, was there for the music. The fans of course, but everyone who worked there as well, from the owners on down. I always got the vibe they'd be happy doing what they were doing for no money as long as the music was there. And that kind of feeling get transfered to both the musicians and patrons. Those kinds of places are special and sadly harder and harder to find.

Thanks for posting the link! :D
