Is it too much to hope that Aaron will do his solo set in the gospel tent this year? Anyone know? Let the speculation begin..........

My guess (and it's only a guess) is that he will. Don't take that to the bank; I really don't know. No nod, no wink.

wow... wouldn't that be wonderful? Back in 1999 or maybe 2000, I was standing at the back of the gospel tent, drinking a cafe au lait, waiting for my friend Nick to join me, when Aaron bumped into my arm, spilling coffee down my dress and took a napkin from my hand and began to wipe it off me... all I could think was wow... look at those arms! LOL He was in a rush to get up to the front of the tent as I lifted my arm to drink... but it was a nice way to start off the Sunday!

As much as I love Aaron Neville, the canned music that he sings to in the gospel tent has always bugged me. I've never been quite sure why there isn't anyone live playing with him.

I feel the exact same way, CJ . . . my friend Gloria, who knows the Nevilles, told me that is at Aaron's request. Apparently, he doesn't like to do his solo gigs with a live band - go figure.

My younger son who is 2 is a big Aaron Neville fan....he loves the song that he sings on the "Little People" series. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you don't have small children.

He needs just a solo guitarist. It's just not the setting for karaoke. We have discussed this here in the past, but Aaron obviously doesn't listen!!

Well, you can't go back to the past. I used to love it when he wasn't on the schedule, but those in the know understood that he would be playing with the Zion Harmonizers. Now, it's on the official schedule, you can't get near the tent and the canned music just doesn't do it for me...sniff.

I swear that the first time we saw him in the tent, he WAS accompanied by the very much alive Zion Harmonizers but only later started the solo thing.

Is this only a wishful recollection or is it shared?

Ah...I'll take Ross's simultaneous post as confirmation!

I remember both of those things in '06 (I didn't go last year). I had never seen a crowd like that at the Gospel Tent. The canned music leaves no room for spontaneity, to say the least.

Unannounced or not, these were still well attended. In fact, I first got introduced to the glory of great gospel music at Jazz Fest when on our first trip we got a hold of the rumor and decided to make sure we had a good seat by checking out a couple of the acts before the Harmonizers. Obviously, like most first timers, we were blown away by about everything we saw and have been big fans of the Gospel tent ever since.
