Just now see a 2*, way out by airport, on Hotwire for $39. Shows only laundry as amenity, but they might be trying to fool us. Would love to know what this is; we got a nice chain place with pool and all nonsmoking last year under nearly the same terms.

# 2 choice is O'keefe Plaza downtown, on Quikbook, for $70 and cancel policy of 72 hours. Nice option for those waiting for the music listings. Haven't stayed there but would love to hear from someone who has.

I had never heard of this O'Keefe Plaza Hotel. It is on Perdido Steet, and every time I look for Perdido I get lost. (There's a joke there.) The Trip Advisor does not like the O'Keefe:

Good options but the airport thing becomes a drag , take it from someone who has done it , just a note if anyone is going solo ,I have one of those holiday inn rooms which I booked and would not mind shareing room and splitting costs , have room for both weekends thursday to monday

I had never heard of this O'Keefe Plaza Hotel.

Apparently, this used to be the Sleep Inn (which is a Clarion brand).

Sorry, didn't check the TripAdvise reviews of O'keefe first. Those people do seem a bit unhappy, though.

For those willing to drive I do think $39 at airport, with no parking fees, sounds low. By the time I get the nerve to book it, it'll probably be gone.

Didn't Mr Terry stay out by the airport last year? Can't remember what he said about it after.

Wish I knew what it was, probably not too bad a place.

i concur with the others that you probably dont want to be staying that far out, but if you insist you can most likely figure out which hotel it is via this site: http://www.betterbidding.com/index.php

Searching now May 1-5, it's still listed, still $39. There's also a 2* in the Metairie zone at the same price, which gets you a few miles closer.

Betterbidding doesn't list any known 2* hotels in either zone. Checking vacation packages for those dates doesn't help. It does show the Days Inn Met. as 2.5 stars. If these places are a half star below Days-Inn quality, that's a bit worrisome.

Hotwire says: "Our 2-star hotel suppliers include Comfort Inn, La Quinta, Days Inn, and other respected hotel brands."

I am pretty confident that the 2* option at the airport is the Extended Stay America.

I stayed out by the airport, and I didn't find it too bad at all. But then, I did want to make some road trips, so having a hotel without parking fees was a big plus.
