Why thats close enough to Lafittes, that even if it were a rat infested hell hole, Id still enjoy it ... But Im sure it isnt:)

I have stayed at HP during jazzfest, a few years back. Really liked it. Great quiet location, mostly nice rooms, and nice long-term staff. Being a small hotel, there is not an site coffee shop/restaurant, but Stanleys' is right there as is a good coffee house - name I don't remember - right down the street on Chartres & St Philip. And yes, crawling distance from Lafitte's!
Just be sure to request a room on the Chartres side (facing the courtyard) vs the Decatur building - some of those are small and in need of remodeling. The one we had had a lovely view of the courtyard. Their own website has some nice pics - www.hotelprovincial.com (http://www.hotelprovincial.com)

It's great because it's set back a little from the craziness of the Quarter. Very quaint, historical buildings. I got engaged in the courtyard, so I may be biased!

I stayed here four years ago, and liked it, it is certainly central and close to Lafitte's. Stella's is more a fine dining place -- but the coffee shop that was mentioned is now Stanley's and a finer eggs bennie topped with a fried oyster you will not find. Stanley's is run by the same people that run Stella's. IB, I sure hope nothing has changed there -- it was the best brekky I had last year over two entire weeks.

ooooh wait, forgot to mention the ghosts. Couple of the "haunted tours" stop in front of the hotel. They tell the story of the dead soldiers hanging out at the hotel ever since the building housed a military hospital. We never saw them, but.......
