Wow, some serious Thead momentum, I'm loving it. For those who haven't been there and are considering it, I can't emphasize enough, how well run this gig is. Extremely well organized, yet low key. The camping was terrific. Clean, safe yet, no overt big brother or rules enforcement. Just need good weather......

Hey all,
we went to Crawfish Fest last year with Mel, Eat_Mo, CiscoKid, Barry10016 and had a blast. We went on Sat and dispite all the R, it was a super fun day. The beer and music and great people made it all worth it.
Hoping to go back this year but we won't be able to drive since we live in FL now so we'll see....

Do they allow RV camping there?
(Not that I own an RV, but one of my favourite tricks is to rent a big moving truck (u-haul, etc.) and convert it into my own little mobile party shack! You can hook up a stereo, bring in furniture and just roll down the door when the bears come out. The ramp also makes for an easy wobble into the party chamber...:>)

Wow, thanks for all the kind words.
Chuck Wentworth has been my Talent Booker for 15 years, each year we add more $'s to our Talent Budget and get a little bigger. We now have 4 stages going on at once. We do have camping in 3 distinct camping area's on site. Camp New Orleans is for the party animals in tents. Camp Baton Rouge is for families and it's more quiet. Camp Madisonville is for the big RV's and we do have hookups available. We have Hot showers for everyone camping. And yes, we do have attendants in the real bathrooms near the stages. Not many festivals have that. I don't want to come on here do do a commercial, but i will answer questions. i will lurk occasionally.
If you come, you must bring sunshine. The "R" has been killing me.
I moved back to LA to live on Tickfaw River, 35 minutes from BR and about 55 minutes from NOLA. I am happy you liked the video on the website. Feel free to e-mail me any questions.
See ya in 5 months

It's only 5 hours from us so that makes it no more than 8 from T.O. (without considering border delays).
Boy this festival is looking really good to me, especially if we don't make Jazzfest. (FQF is a lock though). My camping days are all behind me....does anyone know how quickly local hotels sell out...if they do?
jazzykeb
01-10-2007, 12:29 PM
Michelino, the key word in your question is "local". The venue is out in the sticks.....so there is not much of anything local. I would think you would be able to find someting within a 30 mins drive. Most folks are either day trippers or campers.
I just checked the website and there are a bunch of hotels within 20 miles, I think you should be able to get one as long as you don't wait to the last minute.

Being born and raised in Louisiana (Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Natchitoches) with my family still there, including daughter in New Olreans~ I was thrilled to run across Michael Arnone's Crawfish Fest some years ago when I was working in New YOrk City. Went once. WAs hooked. Been going ever since no matter that I don't have biz in NYC anymore.
And yes the talent and venues just keep getting better ~Last year I envied the campers so this year, I'll be one!

I wholeheartedly hope that ya'll come to CRAWFISH!!!
It has become essential to easing my post Jazzfest withdrawls. Besides great music truly it is one of the nicest friendliest and family oriented Fests ever.
I have a friend who lives about 20 minutes away so we scoop her grandkids, niece, and other kidlets and bring them along under the guise of it is her nieces birthday patry (two years ago Mr GPjr even sang Happy Birthday to her)...I can highly recommend it as jazzfest training....It's not to shabby for the we should be grown set either thanks to the good food and cold beer......the R has never seemed to dampin the good time..... Well, I don't know that I can make as generous an offer as MD, but I will be driving to the fest and getting there early to set up camp with friends and other T-heads and I do have a fair bit of extra camping equip. Extra tents, sleeping bags etc. We will also have a grill that any can use, I'll have extra coolers, I can shop for extra beverages and food for those who are flying in, we will have a large canopy and tables, I can bring extra chairs etc.

Wow, I've been considering going to this year's festival since I saw the line-up. It would be my virginal experience there. < smirk > I was exploring the idea of driving down from Boston with a friend who absolutely DOES NOT CAMP, but after reading this thread, and knowing as a devoted Rhythm & Roots camper that the camping is as much or more fun than the festival, if I go, I'll definitely have to camp. I want some 'bone!!

yeah Zbonnie join on in! Not only is the camping great (convenient, close to the stages, and fun!) but the campers get the place to themselves on Friday night with live music and gumbo! It's awesome!
Count me in that number of Threadheads giving this some serious consideration...how close is the RV area to the camping (tent) area? The RV rental idea suits me a bit more than a tent and sleeping bag...God I must be getting old to have just admitted that...

The map may not have been revised for 2007 yet. I think we have a little time to finalize those details, and the atmosphere is laid back enough that I think they might let you switch campgrounds if you picked the wrong one. We have camped in New Orleans previously and it was plenty close to everything.

Chuck has been the talent booker for 15 years. We elimanated the 4th camping area. The dance hall has 2 huge overhead doors on opposite ends, so we get a good draft going. It has the only wooden dance floor. Camp Madisonvile is about 300 yards from the dance hall, all 4 stages are in very close proximity, but the sound workds just fine. The audio director of jazz fest personally oversee's the 4 systems and is on the board of the main stage. Jambalaya, not gumbo on friday night for the campers. If you book early, you will be more assured of getting your first choice. Camping did sell out last year. I will try to post a new layout next week.I have to get ready for a pig roast at my house tommorrow.

King of Clubs, yes you each need the camping/fest ticket. While you only have one popup, the fee covers the very nice clean bathrooms, showers, and other support facilities. And of course, you each get to enjoy the music!

I can vouch for the fact that the sound system last year was first-rate. I spent most of my day at the main stage, and I can tell you that the sound was pristine. An excellent job by those responsible. And the camping areas are even closer than they look on the map. It's a great event and well worth the price.

The camping "sites" are merely grass fields with some markings painted on the grass. Longest walk is shorter than any JF walk, so its all close. Ive always in in the NOLA site- along one fence are the rv hookups- electric and water. We were right next to the crawfish vendors last year. They brought back a dozen live ones for the kids to play with- probably still living there in the field.
Nothing is crowded, in my 2 visits. Make sure your there early on Friday, to get set up and attend the private Friday dance. Last year was Steve Riley- was supposed to start around 9- well, he ended around 9. Bummer.
Its also very kid friendly. Just keep them away from the fences.

It's about 55 miles from either Newark (EWR) or Stewart (SWF). I've got to think a cab from either would be pretty pricey. You might be better off with a rental car, cheaper than R/T cab fare even with the very high rental prices in the NYC area.
But someone here'll give you a ride, I'll bet.
Maybe even me, if I make the trip and the flight times are close.

yes, if you either buy them at the same time or leave a note in the comment section when u buy your tickets that you want to be with threadheads, how many people do u expect? We wont be able to group hookups with non hookups, that back fence is just for people needing power. We will be checking all fences this year, sorry that happened.

Corona...Sussex County is literally in the middle of nowhere. I'm not sure of the Jersey side, but the nearest airport on the Pennsylvania side is the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport (called "international" because they fly one flight per week to Montreal :)
Anyway... we have to go right past the airport from our house to get to the Crawfish Fest, (it's slightly less than an hour from the airport), and my wife and I would be more that willing to pick you up at the airport and give you a ride to the fest on Friday afternoon or night. We are leaving on Friday and we're flexible as to what time we leave. We're coming back on Sunday and, depending on your flight, we could also drop you off. Just let me know if you need our help.

I agree Crawfish Fest is a blast. I'm not a big camping guy but luckily I live nearby so I opt for the Crawfish Express bus out of NYC. Quick 45 min to an hour ride, have a beer or two on the bus. relax, get there, fest away and then doze off on the way back. And then do it again the next day. Can't beat it.

We use this service from Newark Airport, u must reserve them 24 hours in advance with a credit card, but u can pay with cash. Clean vans, cheaper than a cab. State Shuttle 800-427-3207

Anyone coming from out of state, just let me know. We can coordinate the camping/food. We bring a ton of gear, so the out of staters can travel light- we will bring it all. The camping is as much fun as the fest itself.
Its a great time- just need to get Tangled in the closer campground!

yeah Zbonnie join on in! Not only is the camping great (convenient, close to the stages, and fun!) but the campers get the place to themselves on Friday night with live music and gumbo! It's awesome!
LOVE camping fests!!! This sounds much more manageable, less crowded, less of a hassle than High Sierra Fest's 10,000 people, and we loved that.

I emailed you!
Arriving Fri, around 12-3, give you pick of sites.
Michael- can we get an area of NOLA campground reserved for the Threadheads? It would be good PR! Ill be happy to coordinate.
We've got to figure out flights. Though SF is farther, it's easier, we could just red eye Thursday night. Unfortunately from MT/WY I think it's going to be more complicated. We'll figure it out. Our fest friend from NYC is going to come home.
For the record, $95 for camping AND that line up is a steal! A camping version of Jazz Fest? Is there anything better??

Fly in on Thurs pm to Baltimore(BWI), spend the night at Casa de Mdfest, and drive up with us on Fri. If 4-6 of you do this, just get a rental minivan for the drive. Its about 4 hours, diagonally thru PA to west Jersey.

People can also fly into Newark, NJ which is only 1 hour from the Crawfish Fest.
I think staying at md's would be great if you can fly in on Thursday. If you fly in on Friday morning then Newark is pretty close to just grab a rental and drive up there.

Crap! I just looked at my w**k schedule and I have to be there on Friday, June 1 for an exhausting day. Somehow I don't think I can handle the 5 hour drive alone either that night (and set up camp in the dark) or Sat. morning and set up camp for just one night and drive home on Sunday. Additional consideration: I will be doing some serious zydeco festival dancing both of the following two weekends in much closer CT.

Just a heads up to anyone ordering tickets for Crawfish Festival.
Be very careful when you order through paypal or credit card. I had my card number stolen when I purchased my tickets through their site.
They have now offered mail order tickets so I would highly suggest doing that instead.
Needless to say, I WAS ROBBED of around $1500.00 in a total of 5 minutes right after I ordered my tickets.
This is nothing against Michael and his festival. Who ever has been doing this did the same to some others last year.
Just be careful guys!

Last year we had 3 payments miss directed because my e-mail was changed, since then, we have had no problems until i heard of this.
I talked to my hosting company at midnight last night. Credit Card info is never ever on our servers, it stays on the Paypal Servers. I had him write this last night to better explain the procedure. I spend thousands of dollars a year to maintain my website and online store. My hosting company is a network specialist, not just some guys with a server in the backroom. I hope to hear from Katy soon. I hope this helps. Michael
The online store at www.crawfishfest.com is highly secure. We integrate with Paypal for processing of credit cards for an added level of security. You will notice that during the transaction before you put in any credit card information, you will be taken to the secure section of the Paypal website. Your credit card information is entered at that point. Your credit card information is not sent back to us in any way. We only receive an authorization code for the transaction from Paypal. Paypal is recognized worldwide as a secure way of completing online transactions.
PayPal is designed from the ground up to be one of the safest ways to send money online. Unlike other financial institutions, our payments are sent without sharing financial information. In fact, PayPal never shares your financial information with or sells it to merchants.
There are some tips that you should follow when using a computer for any transaction.
1. Make sure that you have completely up to date virus and spyware protection from a reputable source.
2. Regularly, run spyware detection programs on your computer to ensure that you have no spyware programs. Many spyware programs are key loggers which will capture the data that you type and email it to a source. This is one of the main ways for confidential information to be stolen.
a. Recommended free spyware detection programs:
i. Trend Micro Housecall - http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/
ii. Lavasoft Ad-aware - http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
3. Clear your cookies and temporary internet files on a regular basis.
4. Do not open emails or email attachments from people that you do not know.
Spyware installs itself onto a user's computer by stealth, subterfuge and/or social engineering and sends information from that computer to a third party without the user's permission or knowledge. Spyware includes keyloggers, backdoor Trojans, password stealers, and botnet worms, which cause corporate and personal data theft, financial loss and network damage. Protection from spyware is an integral feature of our integrated security solutions, and is detected in the same way as viruses, Trojans and worms.

Basically what happened is that when I pressed the button to pay by paypal another box came up to enter a new credit card number. MY BIG MISTAKE.
We do have anti-spyware on our computer but something got through. I thought it was secure.
This is not Michael's website, this is something happening through paypal.
JUST DO NOT PUT IN ANOTHER CREDIT CARD NUMBER whenever buying through paypal for ANY reason. Lots of Scam artists out there.
NOT MICHAELS SITES FAULT AT ALL!

I know everyone is focused on Jazzfest at the moment, but if you are considering Crawfish Fest, I'd recommend taking some time to figure it out and make your reservations. With the step up in talent I would be shocked if it doesn't sell out. And one reason the camping is so good is that they don't let it get overcrowded. So, come on threadheads. Gonna have to buy a new one. Left it, my pump and a nice set of sheets in nola at festgiving and have not been able to connect to get them back.

Since the T-heads have been a welcome bunch to me on this board - while I'm here in NJ - I'm gonna offer to drive you there if you want a ride. I live close to the airport compared to everyone else and I have absolutely NO problem drivin' someone out there.
Even got an SUV that will hold lots of people and stuff and whatever combination thereof.

I am not kidding. The one thing I disliked (actually HATED) when I moved up here was the fact that people didn't pitch in. I've sworn on a stack of whatever handy - on multiple occassions - that I would repay ALL of the generous things that happened to me when I lived in New Orleans for anyone from New Orleans....
When I was in grad school I didn't have a car. This girl figured out I was riding the Elysian Fields bus from uptown to UNO every day and back at night. One day she said to me 'I don't know why the hell you didn't tell us you didn't have a car. get in my car and I'm takin' you home.' turns out she lived a few blocks from me and we're actually bestest friends and have been for years....
Jersey is a pain the a$$ driving anyway - wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy - least of all new to be friends.
That goes for you too Corona and anyone else who might need a ride if you're flying in for Crawfish Fest. I may not be able to accomodate everyone, but I'll try like hell.

Is there enough room in Camping New Orleans for everyone? Would it be easier to put room aside in Baton Rouge and then people who are arriving late aren't trying to fit into a really small space.
Whatever works. I will be getting there early on Friday so I can meet up with Michael when I get there to set up and wait for everyone.

Same camping rules will apply to the village. http://www.crawfishfest.com/camping.htm We will not let anyone visit at night or during the day. Anyone who wants to enter the village will need a wristband. Please help me with this, I want it to be easy for all of us.
