YYR, freaky, that is way freaky to have all three bones from the same band. And galactic/dumpstaphunk/troy andrews was a difficult category for me.

lol RT! BTW, You'll get to see him playing in L.A. for the Rosebowl Parade...the Shamarr Allen band on a float...fun! :) (if it's televised...not sure if it usually is)

I'm not a big fan of some of the stylistic choices that Galactic and Troy have taken over the past year, so I went with Ivan & Co.

Here's at least one vote for Troy. I like his fresh new direction and think he has some real break-out potential. Not that Ivan Neville and Dumpstaphunk isn't also a good choice for Funk Band, and, of course, Kermit or the Pine Leaf Boys are also great competition for Performer of the Year (I really thought Christian Scott would have been added to the mix here (http://www.christianscott.net/)...he's currently opening for McCoy Tyner)
Of course I am a big fan of all the trombone nominees, but consider a vote for Rick Trolsen...have been listening to his album "Sunrise on Bourbon Street" (http://louisianamusicfactory.com/showoneprod.asp?ProductID=5374) and this is a fantastic Traditional Album (more about this later), could have certainly been a contender...although the choices in both Traditional and Contemporary Jazz are all strong...it's good to see two of those are also nominated for Album of the Year.
Finally, I was all set to vote for The Pine Leaf Boys: Blues du Musicien
for Cajun album of the year but then I saw another choice: Allons Boire un Coup: A Collection of Cajun and Creole Drinking Songs (http://louisianamusicfactory.com/showoneprod.asp?ProductID=5198) , an album that I know nothing about except that I suddenly need to have it.
PS To Offbeat..Isn't it time to add a best "Downloadable Taped Live Performance" (http://app1.dsbd.net/dsb/artistdetail.jsp?show=CF-07-S0000548) category ?(Commercial of course.)

My votes went to Dumpstaphunk too. Really dig Troy Andrews too, but I find DP a better band with a more developed sound than the others nominees. Furthermore, in my opinion their music is more anchored in N.O. music than the two other nominees, while still creatin something new.

Vote for Susan Cowsill .
Vote for Susan Cowsill .
Hey Jonny, I met Tangie at Ryan's for Susan on Saturday night. She was sounding good, but pretty mellow so we stayed an hour or so, made a stop at Chart Room, and then headed to the Leaf for the last hour of Anders. He was on fiyah....
