Hey, I keep hearing about the stomp - I have never been, and the names of those performing sound familiar but I don't know their music. What's it like? Is it a particular style of music? Enlighten me, oh ye wise threadheads....

Hi Glinda,
Here is the website:
http://www.ponderosastomp.com/
In their words - Ponderosa Stomp is "a music festival that celebrates and pays tribute to the unsung heroes of rock ‘n roll, rhythm & blues, and other forms of American roots music".
Which is why some of the names sound familiar, but are not famous. These are the unsung heroes - the roots of music.
There are always tons of performers and it goes into the wee hours of the night, all for one price.

Glinda, stomp music is mostly not my kind of music BUT the vibe and the "costumes" that many patrons of the stomp wear are waaaay cool. My buddy, juana, loves the swamp dearly. She's there when it starts and closes it down. That's usually about 14 hours of music. Starts around 2 or 3 in the pm and goes til 4 or 5 in the am. That said, there are already some folks on the lineup who will likely get me there for a portion of the event-wardell Q, dan penn, augie meyers. Unless something else comes along. It is new orleans and it is the jazzfest...

Roky Erickson is booked for the stomp. Juana says this is big news.

The Stomp RULES!!! HOB is a big question mark, but when it was at the Rock n Bowl it was the best. You'll hear all types of music, rockabilly, swamp pop, r n b, blues, and this year some psychedelia. Great crowd, great music.
Roky Erickson could probably called America's Syd Barrett. Lead the 13th Floor Elevators, (cult psychedelic/garage band) Like Syd Roky overindulged a bit in supplementals and became a recluse. His brother eventually took over his legal and financial affairs and helped him get back on his feet and he's making music again, and he RARELY performs which why it's a big deal.
The rest of the lineup looks damn good so far. I would not miss the Stomp. Also, and again I don't know how it will be at HOB, but at the Rock n Bowl you could leave and come back a few hours later if there was something else you wanted to see. That was my plan..........walked in,got hooked by the music and the crowd and didn't leave.

I just had this thought about the stomp. That day in the quarter is gonna rock. The stomp usually starts about 3 or 4 in the afternoon and right across the street, lmf will be rockin with instores! Oh, yeaaaahhh.
For the most part, HOB was fine for Piano Night. I don't recall if they were allowing re-entry, but I think maybe they did.
My only gripe, there was the usual "House of Rules" security to get in, and they were not allowing cameras. But in terms of sound, crowd, flow, etc, it was all good.

I don't wanna be a downer, but if the Stomp is at the HOB this year, wil they let it go on until the wee hours?
