In Offbeat weekly...wahooo!! Tix on sale for $20 this Saturday morning. Now who wants to come out and play with me, Ib and Hebjamn? :)

We continue to celebrate OffBeat's 20th anniversary this weekend with the second of a series of events leading up to the Best of the Beat, which takes place Saturday, January 12 at the House of Blues. This year's Best of The Beat show includes performances by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Davell Crawford, the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance Students, Ann Savoy and her Sleepless Knights, Amanda Shaw, James Singleton, Big Blue Marble, the Zydepunks, the return of Cyril Neville and more. We look forward to honoring our Lifetime Achievement recipient Wardell Quezergue, one of the architects of New Orleans R&B and the man behind such hits as "Big Chief," "It Ain't My Fault," "Mr. Big Stuff" and "Groove Me." With music in both rooms of the House of Blues and food from some of New Orleans' finest restaurants, we look forward to a show that'll honor the magazine, our music scene, and kick of the early Mardi Gras season right. Tickets go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m., and tickets will be $25, but we have a limited number available for $20. Buy your tickets early because when those are gone, they're gone. Tickets go on sale at Ticketmaster at 10am on Saturday December 8.

Waiting for a report.

No Best of the Beat award for SHamarr. :( The award went to Eames Era who looked like they may have had their college girlfriends vote a lot and sounded dumber than a bag of hammers. The food was fantastic and the event was fun but not as fun as the night before at the SIV fundraiser. Shamarr & a buncha brass bands; 17 brass band members on stage at the end. (YES, I was there till "near" the end!)

Jenn, do you know if the winners of the awards are determined solely by votes cast, or are other factors weighed?

If it's the former, I would think that Offbeat's subscriber's votes would carry more weight.

At any rate, I was floored when Corona texted me about who won this category. I was certain that Shamarr Allen had this one sewn up, and I don't think there is another artist more deserving.

My colleague is a pretty girl! She's in one of the pictures. Actually I didn't have much editorial input on selecting these shots--they were the only ones that came out half way decently. The others, including any of IB and Corona, were just too blurry.

I don't know about the voting, but I DO know that this is Eames Era THIRD time to be up for "emerging artist". After a while don't you stop "emerging"? I also thought Shamarr was a given in tis category. Extremely disappointing.

I had another fab weekend in New Orleans. Thanks to ibjamn and hebjamn for the hospitality and the 9th ward tour on Saturday. Thanks to rosie for the fun on the west bank.
Glad I got to hang with the jamns, corona, jada, amyloves, ms seebass, evil2for, Shamarr and mr and mrs. windowman. Got in Friday night just in time to see the close at the wolf. Seventeen brass banders on the stage. OmfreakinG! It was amazing. and there was ibj right up front shakin her moneymaker at 2 in the morning!
Best of the Beat was a great $20 ticket. Saw Amanda Shaw, Roddy Romero and the Valparasio Men's choir(ugh) in the Parish and Soul Rebels, Wardell Quezergue, Davell Crawford(awesome high energy set) and an Ernie K Doe tribute band in the music hall. Skipped out before Cyril's set.
And the food was from 24 Nola restaurants and included: crawfish etoufee, chicken curry, eggplant Parmegiana, gumbo, shrimp remoulade, pork burrito, bbq shrimps, oyster shooters, bacon wrapped jumbo shrimps, chicken pasta, gator cheesecake, pulled pork sammies, salad of baby greens, blue cheese, walnuts and cranberries, pralines, cookies, banana foster bread pudding, and more!

:) I hear ya! They must be the slowest butterfly in the whole world!

Yes, indeed! Not only that, but I felt his work warranted nomination in other categories as well. Someone who's played MSG w/ Aaron & Cyril as far back as '05 is still considered "emerging"? His work with Mahogany & ReBirth alone would put him way past "emerging", in my opinion. But what do I know?

Well, there's always next year, and I know Shamarr will keep on keepin' on and continue to play great music, dazzle his fans, and inspire the next generation.

Peace

OMG the food was very good. Some of the best gumbo I've ever had. It was great hanging with all the Threadheads that attended. Miss you guys already. :(

Oh I know someone who can DEFINITELY hook her babee up with a shirt right Ib?!! ;)

It was a great weekend. Best of the Beat was really
cool with some yummy food- shrimp remoulade, phenomenal gumbo, bananas
foster bread pudding, mussels, etoufee (didn't like that) and whole
bunch more food that I was too full to try. It was all included in the
ticket price of $20! Music was fantastic and the Wardell tribute was
superb as was Davell Crawford and the Soul Rebels. Didn't stay for Cyril as it was pretty late and we had been there since 6. Not many peeps left in the HOB for his show.
It was a great show though and all that food made it a
great bang for your buck

Friday night was really cool....the brass band throwdown at the Wolf was
crazy. By the end of the night we counted 17 musicians on stage tearing
it up. We all partied hard, Ib included and she was upfront and center til about 2:30. So
fun!! :)

So Friday's dinner at Jenn's was FANTASTIC!!! We had crawfish monica which was BY
FAR way BETTER than at fest. It was to die for! Dave's crawfish bread
kicked ass as well as amy's salad. It was a fun night of tarminis, great
food and great company. Saturday we went to Elizabeth's and I split filet mignon topped with a crawfish hollandaise sauce
with potatoes and poached eggs...and then the eggs sardou...with Nate 2For ....crazy yummy!
We took off to Rosetree's and cleaned him out lol! I got a beautiful
vase, a rosebowl, and a tumbler for pens on my desk...THANKS Rosie!!.
The car was FULL and I'll post pics when I
get home. Then we took a drive to the upper and lower ninth wards and
it was still so sad. Tears again....it'll never go away. Saw all the
pink houses set up which represent where Brad is building the homes.
LOTS of houses bought already! Then we went to the musicians village
and it was so pretty....Shamarr's street still isn't done so we couldn't
get close, it was blocked off but it's gonna be a nice neighborhood.

Sunday Nate's went flying with David for a couple of hours and Jenn and
I hung out with Jada and Ken until Jada had to go to the airport. Dinner was at Al Forno, the old Santa Fe and it was wondermous!!! Thin crust wood oven pizza and they deliver. My new pizza place for fest lol! Then over to DBA for Paul Sanchez where he showered us with Threadhead love song and shout outs throughout the show :) Yayy!! Amyloves and her hip-man were there and it was a beautiful show. Lots of tears shed. After the show at dba, we headed to Tomatillo's for some live latin music and lots of salsa dancing (thanks Seefood!!) and then over to the Hookah where we met up with Paul Sanchez again..for drinks, lots of gabbing and Vavavoom. It was a GREAT night!!!

It was a great weekend and although it went fast, we packed in LOADS of fun!! Til next time my friends....St. Paddy's Day :)
I'm so glad I made this trip. It's been perfect. Thanks Jenn!!!

Damn straight BillericayDicky, But what it takes is more sacrifice than I can do at this point in my life and you got that big pond dividing.

So happy for Lis and everyone else that goes many many times a year. Right now I got kids, sports (3 kids playing 3 sports), music locally and vacations that the family digs as a whole. They like NOLA but like the beach, the mountains and the bigass cities. 6 1/2 years they will ge gone to college and beyond. Then I will spend lots of time in the best city in the world. God knows the music and vibes will mend my broken heart as they move on.

Outstanding. Love to fly in small craft myself.

This shot is great. Shows the effort which is large and the need vast.

It's sorta kinda my own recipe, but I'll dig up the recipe thread & post it this weekend. I use the same trick as David does for his crawfish bread & why it's so good; we make it like we're not trying to make a profit. ;)

the most important ingredient is the love .....I would appreciate your input and I am cool with summa this and summa that... I am not a big exact measurer... that said my last attempt at CF Monica was OK but didn't exactly get on my other halfs make this more often list and I haven't had any inspirations on how to tweak it.
It is wicked coooold here in CT and cooking is something warm to do. so I could use something new to try :)

No, seriously, he did! I thought I called you from the park that day... maybe I tried and didn't get a signal or something, but I really thought I told you that. I had on my one PDKK shirt, that's not a tee shirt, and between Terrance introducing me as MamaRoux, Queen of Pet De Kat Krewe... Will's eyes got big and he hugged me and asked if I knew you... which of course, I replied yes... and he went on about going to your house and eating. I thought maybe you adopted him or something... or that Shamarr was his little brother. LOL
