A general scattering of interesting things... Sweet Honey In The Rock in Children's category ... Harry Shearer in Comedy ... Harry Connick's up against Bela Fleck and Philip Glass & more in Instrumental ... King Oliver made the list, for Best Album Notes ... Woody Guthrie too, for Historical Album ... Terrence Blanchard's Tale of God's Will is on the Jazz Large Ensemble list ... Kenny Wayne Shepherd in Trad Blues and Long Form Video (In fact, trad blues is the only category where I'd like to have all those albums, please!) ... lucky that Terrence Simien made the best Cajun/Zydeco category, considering how hard he pushed to get it. Others are Gino Delafose, Lisa Haley, Lost Bayou Ramblers, Pine Leaf Boys, Racines, Roddie Romero ... strange to see Zydeco and Cajun have to compete against each other, though ... hey, Brave Combo in the Polka section ... one of the classical pieces in the Production category is Louisiana - A Pianist's Journey (Kenneth Boulton) ... look at the Big Names in the Spoken Word category: Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, Maya Angelou, Barack Obama, Alan Alda(!)...

Doyle Bramhall was nominated for Best Contemporary Blues Album. CC Adcock worked on that project with him. The problem is that they are up against EC & JJ Cale & Robben Ford, so I can't decide. Good thing I'm not on the selecting committee.
On a happy note, I bought a Grammy nominated CD and had it autographed at the Rock 'n' Bowl. :D
They nominate Tab Benoit last year for "Brother to the Blues" and not this year for "Power of the Pontchartrain"??? WTF? This year's album is by far his best work IMHO...and his live shows lately have been on fire. And, with apologies to the ladies, I don't even care what he looks like...

They heard he was from La., and couldn't figure out if they should put him in the Cajun/Zydeco category or not. :)
Really, I have the feeling that the category judges are like the ones for the IBC -- "Power of the Pontchartain" probably wasn't "blues enough" for them.

I've always liked Tab but when he played some funky ass blues at King Biscuit last year, I fell in love with the boy. He can most definitely play.

I've been listening to a lot more Tab recently, and I definitely like his grezy swamp funk more than his basic blues. "There's something about that music...it depresses me." :>)
