Michelino found this on Cyril's myspace page...
denideadhead also posted it in the general music discussion forum...
"I am coming home for Mardi Gras this year, i have something to say musically, spiritually,
and I will come to share in the uniqueness that my city represents during such a spiritual and
coming together of good times and rememberances of a wonderful city that was not sold out by politicians stuffing their pockets with the money that was supposed to be rebuilding it....We will be honoring Brother Tootie Montana and also raising awareness for the
non-profit programs called the White Buffalo Day children's foundation and the Back Street Museum that my wife and I have been helping and lending our service to, to keep the true culture of New Orleans alive.
On Monday at the Mother-in-Law lounge we invite all the people to come and celebrate our coming home, but the honoring of the memory of brother Tootie and honring his Queen SISTER JOYCE....
He died trying to bring the city and the black indians together. We will honor this big chief's memory
I will be playing fresh new music with a fresh sound but we have our indian face paint on and we are ready to go.
SO YOU CAN GO SEE THE SAME OLD THING OR COME SEE SOMETHING FRESH....

Um Daq? I know Cyril performed at last year's White Buffalo Day and Feb 19, 2006 was last year. I'm wondering if that is old info?

This is great news. In another thread, I made a joke about putting Cyril on this year's poster because of his comments last year. Time heals some wounds, I suppose.

Not that I remember, Ames, but I wasn't really paying attention. I did hear about the White Buffalo Day on OZ and that he was going to be at that in Congo Square.

Yes, February 19th is the Lundi Gras (the day before Fat Tuesday), so despite it saying 2006, it must be this year.

Yes it is this year 2007 sorry for the confusion I too just copied and pasted without seeing the mistake ...I am so glad people are being positive after the beating Cyril took from Chris Rose last year...
If you are even lightly considering it please attend I promise this is very important to Cyril and it should be very special..I had changed my original plans and decided to skip Mardi Gras but am seriously rethinking that descision....
From Cyril himself:
Greetings Denise,
Please feel free to be our mouthpiece, spread the word. I need the people to understand, This is something that will be so spiritual that we need to really understand that our true culture is being under attack, and we need to preserve it.
Peace and thanks again, Cyril

I find this an extremely interesting comment coming from him.

Jenn, here is the FULL quote from his website. I think it is a LOT more telling about Cyril's motives, as misguided as some people might think they are...
"Tribe 13 has made it, a new year is upon us. The wounds are still slowly healing from Katrina's wrath. We are still in a transition of renewal and rebuilding. I skipped Mardi Gras last year for personal reasons because I felt New Orleans was not all the way healed and I know I am still not completely over the complete devastation that my beloved city went through.
It was unbelevably confusing seeing people that was not born in my city telling the natives who was forced out and are still scattered. We are told how to feel or criticized for speaking the truth. I am coming home for Mardi Gras this year, i have something to say musically, spiritually,
and I will come to share in the uniqueness that my city represents during such a spiritual and coming together of good times and rememberances of a wonderful city that was not sold out by politicians stuffing their pockets with the money that was supposed to be rebuilding it, also not caring about the true culture that truly brought the adoring fans from around the world, it sure wasn't the french quarter with it's stench and kharma from the misdeeds it's slavemasters had done , now the city suffers from the kharma of my brothers disrespect for his own life and his brother's life. I pray that they stop the madness.
Traditions of our celebrating Carnival was not being shot at or witnessing a murder. We came together in song and drumming to celebrate the strength of a people who had met and admired another people, the red man for accepting us to through a tragic times of slavery and it's degregation. So at Mardi Gras time the black indian came out to give his thanks and praise of another year of blessings with the celeration and honor to the people that accepted them.
We will be honoring Brother Tootie Montana and also raising awareness for the non-profit programs called the White Buffalo Day children's foundation and the Back Street Museum that my wife and I have been helping and lending our service to, to keep the true culture of New Orleans alive.

I realize that there is a lot of bad blood out there, but I completely get what Cyril is saying. Like him or hate him, he has been the city's best historian/restorician (is that a word???) of some of NOLA's deepest musical heritage over the past decade or two. To see the city decend into a crack den of gangtsa rappers...AND then get raped and pillaged by white political cronies of Bush...well, I would leave too.

Very cool, Denise...very cool. I've long admired your fire and support of the Brothers. To me, their complexity, depth and diversity is exactly what makes them so unique...and what makes them so very hard for many people to comprehend.

thanks Ross and backatcha in spades:)
Most of the reason I am so devoted to the Nevilles is out of gratitude ...without them I would not have gone to Jazzfest or had the privelege of knowing all the really groovy people I have met through New Orleans music and on the message boards...In the 80's there was an Aaron song I particularly liked... so like so many niave others I went to see the Nevilles in CT as an Aaron fan and was blown away by the rest of the show. I had to know more about that stuff...what was this Hey Pocky Way and Congo Square? ...I had been to New Orleans but hadn't experienced this!!! I liked to listen to the blues players on Bourbon and drink hurricanes. well it was love at first listen...over the years I have had the chance to meet and talk to them and they are such nice men all of them even though they are so different...they are really just cool regular guys.
I know Cyril rubs a lot of people the wrong way and I certianly don't always agree him but I have always been impressed by his passion and his conviction.
re: my fire and support ...sometimes equates to foot in mouth or under attack....lol
