A group of us are looking for a place to meet up before the N.O. Bowl and I was wondering if there are any good sports (or other) bars within walking distance of the Superdome. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

I like Lucy's Retired Surfers Bar, Girod at Tchoupitoulas. It's about a 3/4 mile from the Dome. Great bloody marys, hot bartenders & servers.

There are a couple of places the other side of Canal Street on a street called Bourbon.

What is this Bourbon St. you speak of? :p

I've been to retired Surfers on Tchoupitoulas but that may be a little far for walking. Anything in the more immediate area? I know it's not really a "barrish" area but I am hoping a local might know somthing within a short walk. Thanks

I like Ditcharos aka "The Ditch" at Carondelet & Girod pre-game, esp, for a boozy brunch

Yes, that's a good recommendation. I would also recommend the Circle Bar on Lee Circle--it opens at 4 and your game is at 7. There's also a bar in the Hotel Le Cirque (also on Lee Circle), but I haven't been in there in a long time...

Slightly off topic but if you are looking to watch your favorite NFL team while in the French Quarter, I suggest Ryans in the 300 block of Decatur. They have the NFL package and show every active game on numerous tv's. I have liked this bar since the first time I went in there in 1993. A real good mix of locals and tourists.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. It looks like Handsome Willy's will fit the bill perfectly. Judging by the photos on their site it is a pre and or post Saints game spot close to the dome. Perfect!

It's on the upscale side, but LePavillon Hotel at 833 Poydras has a really nice bar and serves a decent buffet lunch.

That's where I would have recommended even though I've never managed to get over there! Hear it's a good pre-game hangout.

I assume the answer is no but has the Hyatt by the SuperDome re-opened yet? or will it ever?

there was a great and impressive sports bar in there called High Tops. I wandered in there when staying there one Halloween for Widespread and had to take a second to imagine how awesome it would be in there for the sugar bowl/super bowl/final four/etc.

Yeah, I miss the Hyatt as a place to stay. Hy Tops was a convenient place to have a beer. After the storm, they announced a partnership to redevelop that general area into a jazz park, but nothing ever came of it. I don't know if those plans are still on the table or not. I think I read somewhere that the Hyatt had been sold; I don't know its future.
