Nothing like a piece of Matzoh slathered in butter. Or dipped in egg and fried for breakfast [matzoh brei] - Jewish French Toast. Yummy!!

Anyway, I went to the client office this morning, all locked up. WTF?
Only person in the office was the genius intern from Cambodia, working her ass off, as usual.
The owner is Orthodox Maximus, but I'm not on the holiday distribution list so I didn't know. I had a lot of work to anyway but I felt a little blasphemous. But that's not the first time I've felt that way.

We lit our menorah & I made sweet potato latkes last night. We are not Jewish, but we are Unitarians (we celebrate EVERYTHING!). On Friday we will do the menorah lighting at the Riverwalk, which we have done every year:
Temple Sinai, 6227 St. Charles Ave., hosts Chanukah on the Avenue, with services at 6:15 p.m. followed by the traditional menorah lighting during an outdoor ceremony at 7 p.m. Dec. 7. Call (504) 861-3693. Chanukah-at-Riverwalk, with the theme "Honoring Israel's Soldiers," includes a special presentation and a "living menorah" composed of some of the past members of the Israeli Defense Force -- now living in New Orleans. Children receive dreidels and chocolate coins during the celebration hosted by Chabad-Lubavitch of Louisiana. It begins at 4 p.m. Dec. 9, on Spanish Plaza, with a children's program, music, Israeli food from Casablanca restaurant, latkes and more. The ceremony to light the giant menorah begins at 5 p.m. Call (504) 866-5164 or visit www.chabadneworleans.com (http://www.chabadneworleans.com).
If any local THs would like to join us at Spanish Plaza, give me a call.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2007, 4:00pm - 7:30pm
Krewe du Jieux's Annual Chanukah Latke Party
1020 St. Claude Avenue (between St. Philip & Ursulines 1 block off Rampart
Street).
We will begin with the traditional schmoozing and boozing and then wander
into the usual discussions and planning for the Jieuxish Cohenspiracy.
Dr. Katie Sellers will lead a more formal discussion on the fine art
of bagel decoration and then around 5:40 we'll light the menorah and
start firing up ... um ... the latkes ... and nosh until our arteries
are thoroughly clogged.
Outside of Vegas, there are no glitter crimes, and what we need to rebuild
Jieux Orleans is GLITTER! Please feel free to bring big tubs of glitter, some
"NO-RUN" Elmer's school glue, puff pens, googley eyes or any other things you
might care to imagine adorning a bagel. Speaking of glitter crimes, one theme
thread of an idea floating out there is "Crimes Against Bagels." Food for
thought so to speak.
Speaking of thinking about food, we'll have plenty of latkes and sour cream
and there are promises of homemade applesauce. Feel free to bring
libations and
l'chaims, special latke toppings or little things to nosh on, (or more
applesauce or more sour cream)!
Honor thy Mother Krewe:
Krewe du Vieux is having their fundraiser this very same night from
6:00pm-10:00pm and our Big Macher and Soon to be King Ronald W. Lewis, will be
introduced at 8:00pm and will be followed by The Jackals, an amazing
amalgamation of the Iguanas, OO7 and legendary Washboard Chaz. We're
wrapping things up at 7:30pm so that those of us who can wander over
there can do so. The gig is members and guests only and we are
official guests of King Ronald. The Fundraiser called, "The Krewe du
Vieux Brewe-Do, Doobie-Do & Cow Poo Party" and costs $10.00. Entrance
on Architect Street, parking on Press Street and at NOCCA -- Security
Provided and Free Beer. Please feel free to forward this to anyone you
think may be interested. Even though the event is Members and Guests
Only, if you've got $10.00, you can be an unofficial guest!
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2007, 4:00pm - 7:00pm
Chanukah @ Riverwalk & The Third Annual New Orleans Community Wide Second
Line Parade
Spanish Plaza Riverwalk.
Our friends the blackhatters throw the largest Jewish event of the year, and
our second line has become the traditional grand finale. I'll be sending out
an e-mail with a route sheet and details on this event shortly. Please
save the
date. This year we're k'velling because the Jewbirth Brass Band has the
backbone of the dream team. For the first time in History, Rebirth Brass Band
Founders Keith and Phil Frasier will split the clefs with Klezmer All
Star Founder Ben Schenck and his Panorama Jazz Band!
This year's second line event is sponsored in part by Chabad House of
Louisiana, Congregation Beth Israel, MardiGrasZone.com and members of the
Conservative Rabbinic Assembly. If you or anyone you know of would be
interested in becoming a cosponsor, please reply to jieuxkrewe@aol.com.

Thank you! I think i'll make them for Jon & I this weekend. My family always makes the traditional ones at our annual Chanukah party but we're not getting together until 12/15 (we're having a late celebration this year) and I can't wait that long for latkes! :)

No need to feel blasphemous (no need for me to tell you how to feel either). Channukah isn't a religous holiday -- people usually work, in Israel, stores are open, etc...

I love "The Hanukkah Song" by Adam Sandler, it is a hoot. I am dusting off a late night at Vaughan's and after I get out of the shower I am heading to Dorignac's to pick up some potatoes, vidalias and oil for tomorrow night. If we had not made plans, I'd come to the KDJ with you, Papafrog, that sounds like a blast.
Ms windowman was not raised jewish, but loves to cook. When we were first married, she was determined to master "ethnic" cooking and she would practice before we would have company over for such occasions. One morning I was showering when she told me that we were having pork roast with latkes for dinner. We don't keep kosher, but I thought this was such a strange combination for a religious holiday, so I asked, "Sweetie, why are we having pork roast with latkes?" My sweetie replied, "because they both go with applesauce". I never would have considered the possibility, but she was right and it is a delicious meal and highly recommended, if you are not offended.
Happy Holidays!

I was raised to believe that what you eat - or don't eat - has nothing to do with how good a person you are.
Food laws made sense in ancient times for health reasons but luckily we don't live in ancient times. ;)
