Big Surprise on this days scores and topic..
I would have thought the same thing before I took the quiz, but five of my questions were obscure facts about Washington wine, like dates and acreage numbers. I guessed wrong on each of them. Got all the Italian and French ones, which were based on grapes, regions and appellations.

6. What's in the briefcase from "Pulp Fiction"?
Your Answer: Marsellus Wallace's soul
The correct answer was It's never revealed.
While many theories have sprung up surrounding the mysterious briefcase, Quentin has never divulged what was really inside.
(In the director's cut of "Pulp Fiction", it's sem-revealed that it was his soul in the briefcase.)
Bunk. I'm filing a protest...

Well a simple stroll through the thread would have revealed it, but in any event it was really Swag's beef, not mine (as I have never been in contention for the top spot). And Swag ended up victorious that month despite Rosie having an extra day, precisely because Rosie played at his hotel during CFF while Swag was roughing it with the rest of us in the campground. So that's why I said you're "pulling a Rosie."

Hey Rosie, I hope you know I'm just busting on you, too. And for my part, it's essentially a coping mechanism to deal with my jealousy/awe of your prowess. You're like the Lance Armstrong of trivia, so of course it's only natural for people to be gunning for you with doping allegations, etc. Put another way, you're like the Yankees, and I'm like the Mets. You do what you do within the rules, and more often than not, you win. I, on the other hand, am trying to put lipstick on a pig. Since I (like the Mets) am never a serious competitive threat, no one would waste energy scrutinizing my tactics. But since you win so often (like the Yankees), you are under the microscope. You should consider it a compliment, as it is function of your success.

People were confused, not surprisingly, about whether or not everybody got the same questions or different ones. For a long time, I had it set with "Cheat prevention" because early on we had a few players who seemed to be cheating (they are not playing any more).
Recently, I changed it back so everybody has the same questions each day. I felt this was fairer to everybody and I am quite confident that we don't have anyone playing who feels the need to cheat.
Consequently, I want to remind players not to drop hints in the chat box.
If anyone has any concerns about this, please let me know. Also, if anyone has any suggestions for special topics, I would greatly appreciate it -- sometimes I have a hard time coming up with those.
Explanation of Cheat Prevention (now turned OFF) from the site.

I can't get the trivia to work today. When I click to play today's game it brings me to a screen that says the timer has started, but there are no questions; it has an error message to contact the game administrator because the chosen category has too few questions.

140,000 seconds!!!
Odder still is that it's not just the timer that's off. Normally, your raw score (the last column) is 100 points for each correct answer, minus 1 for each second on the timer. But today, for those that have timers showing tens of thousands of seconds (or more, Canine), the score is just 100 points for each correct answer minus 600.

Hey Lit, I'm curious. If you remember, what was the 'one very bunk "correct" answer...' you were talking about yesterday?
I assumed Lit was referring to the very poorly phrased final question concerning the skeletal structure of an (extinct?) underwater creature.
I thougt the question was poorly defined, and the choice of answers dubious, including the ostensibly correct one.

Bingo. If an animal has a jaw and teeth, it necessarily has at least some bones. The "correct" answer was that it had no bones. I thought that was bunk.

Yeah, I spent maybe ten seconds thinking about it, before choosing the only potentially correct answer for such a woolly question. It was apparently the wrong one. Frustrating.

I posted this as a "shout out" on the trivia site, but re-posting here since those can scroll off pretty quick.
Some are wondering about what seem to be targeted ads on the trivia web site.
The ads come from exponential.com. Like the better known doubleclick, that company uses cookies to track your activity across multiple sites that use their service, and will target ads based on the overall history it has tracked. This is done without personal identifying info - that is, they know you're someone who in interested in New Orleans, bacon, NFL football, and Penn State, but they don't know your name or who you are.
You can read their privacy policy here, and opt out if it makes you uncomfortable.
http://www.exponential.com/who-we-are/privacy-policy.jsp
Since they don't know who you are, if you do opt out, you'll want to do that on each computer you use for trivia.
And if you just don't like ads in general, I'd recommend the free Adblock Plus add-on for Firefox or Chrome. I use it, and I haven't seen an ad on the trivia site in years.

Thanks Swag for posting this. I was unaware of the problem (and getting confused by the posting on the Trivia site) because I use the Adblock add-on.
So everybody, listen to Swag - the grand pooh-bah and voice of reason.
Ditto on the thanks to Swag for posting the info. I opted out. I also use Google Chrome but was not aware that there as an ad-blocker add-on. I just went to download it and got a dialog box notifying me that the ad-blocker software would have access to my personal information and browsing history if downloaded. Am I correct that this means it would simply be getting the same information that sites like exponential gets, but it will not use that information to direct ads to me?
I'm not really bothered by the ads (I don't get pop-ups, which are blocked, just banner ads), but I want to see if removing them increases my speed in trivia--especially now that I know perennial front-runners Swag and Saturn use the ad-blocker.

I always assumed that Adblock just hid the downloaded ads, which would mean little or no performance difference, but apparently I was wrong. It actually does prevent the actual download of many ads. Let us know if you think there's a performance difference.
As far as opting out, I generally don't bother. There's no identifying info, and if an ad is going to slip through the filter, I'd just as soon it be for something that interests me.
