Pollstar says Percy Sledge ("When a Man Loves a Woman") and Jerry Lee Lewis will be there first weekend.

I've never seen the Killer -- that might be interesting.

I was thinking the same thing. He's one of those Rock & Roll pioneers that I'd like to be able to say I had seen.

Looks like Rock & Roll Hall of Famers are the running theme so far...

Percy performs here a couple of times a year. He can still belt out a tune.

Wow! No cheat? Great news!

I've seen JLL, but never Percy Sledge. It was through his song, "When A Man...", that I first learned about the system of apartheid in South Africa.

Wonder if Donna G., who sang the original backing vocals on the recording with Percy, and who also contributed to the Grateful Dead following the death of Pigpen, will be coming, too?

Hope they get Dave Alvin this year!

I saw Jerry Lee last year at Neil Young's Bridge School Benefit. He was great, really a treat to see.

The last time I saw Jerry Lee Lewis was quite a few years ago at a 4th of July festival where he was headlining. During his set, some pyrotechnic stuff or fireworks or something went off around the stage and he freaked out, hauled ass off the stage and refused to come back. His poor band stayed up there playing for several minutes looking at each other like, "What the hell are we supposed to do now?"

Yay - the first official listing. Way to go!

I'm delighted to hear that JLL is coming. I've never seen him and have always wanted to. They were playing his music this morning on the morning blues show on a radio station here. The DJ's are Nola-heads, so now I'm thinking they must have seen the pollstar listing too!

Saw Jerry Lee at Cowboys in Kennesaw GA about....6 or 7 years ago? It was the best 35 minute set I've ever seen.

Cue "Great White" foreshadowing music.

Donna Jean Godchaux MacKay (formerly of Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia Band, Heart of Gold Band-with Steve Kimock and Greg Anton of Zero, and others) currently guests at the occasional rare gig Zero plays these days. She also occasionally guests with Dark Star Orchestra. One of my all time favorites, Zero is the band reflected in my screen name. It would be great to get Zero to Jazz Fest! (And Dave Alvin too!)

Sweet-I have never seen Jerry Lee Lewis, nice to be able to say I have before he hangs em up(what am I saying? he will prolly outlive me while still performing LOL)-Saw Percy Sledge a few years back-Incredible-Yeah, Donna Jean! Saw her at a Dead thing a few years back and actually talked with her about all the great backup she did with various artists.

These old guys like Jerry Lee, Chuck Berry, and Little Richard are all famous for phoning it in just about everywhere but JazzFest. If that tradition jolds up, the Killer should put on a good show. Still, one of my fondest memories of the Olympic games here 10 years ago was seeing JLL at Centinnial Park. He did a killer version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" that morphed into a rockin' "39 and Holding".

FOMS -- Fear of Missing Something
It's that pain in your heart, tightness in your chest that you feel when you see 2 or more of your favorite bands are playing at the same time on different stages....and you're trying to decide who to see......hurts like hell every time...it's torture....

I caught the "Killer" bout 20 years ago, back before the sets began to shrink. Great show, but we were both much younger then. He just had a birthday and turned 71 on September 29th.
Interestingly, I have one of Percy's (much younger) cousins working for me right now. There's quite a large group of Sledge's in the Detroit area.

I was talking to NOBF tonight about who was coming to Jazz Fest since I booked today. I couldn't remember who I read on this thread, but he said that we knew who would be there:

CC Adcock
Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys
BeauSoleil
Li'l Band O' Gold
Rosie Ledet
Amanda Shaw & The Cute Guys
Sonny Landreth

We might have mentioned some more. My permagrin is in place and it's not even Thanksgiving yet. :D

Yeah, it's gonna be damn crowded in lmf with only one instore spot. Did good rockin records -I think that was the name-that was over by the cathedral fold? They were in a tiny space but they had a few instores.

As of today, Pollstar (http://www.pollstar.com/tour/searchall.pl?By=City&Content=LA_New%2BOrleans&PSKey=Y&Date_From=04-20-2007&Date_To=05-15-2007&By=&Action.x=5&Action.y=14)is no longer currently listing any acts for Fest. It does say:

Fri 04/27/07 "New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival" Fairgrounds Racetrack
Sun 04/29/07 "New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival" Fairgrounds Racetrack

... so it looks like just 2 days for Fest this year, just 1 weekend, and I guess no Saturday. Oh well, Saturdays were too crowded anyway.

Yeah, I looked at pollstar yesterday too and there was nothing :( What a relief that I'm doing both weekends fully this year so I won't sweat missing a day. FOMS will still be there in full force but hopefully doing all of it will take some pressure off a bit. Can't wait till more bands start popping up for fest!! Keep us posted....
