It took the Federal Government a week to get here....there is no comparison. Hopefully the Feds learned a hard lesson from Katrina and people will NEVER have to go through what people went through here....

Let's see, the City of San Diego is pretty much fully functioning with water and gas, and plumbing, and electricity, and highways. So, it makes sense that conditions there are far better at Qualcomm than they were in the Superdome. This will just be more fuel for those idiots who wish to make the victims of Katrina out to be disfunctional. As if it isn't bad enough already.
And.......this doesn't show that the government has learned a damn thing.

I was about to change it earlier today since it is no longer current. It replaced Scooter Libby's comment on working for the President. "The work sucks but I love the commute"

Too be sure the resource issue is entirely different, but Ib is right, even with half there delegation under scrutiny or disgraced, the rich Republicans in Orange County are going to get taken care of alot sooner than the poor black folks in the Crescent City. No surprises here!

Just a reminder that FEMA was at the Superdome within hours after the storm passed. And that 7 FEMA and Red Cross trucks were turned away the next day by Blanco. As for the Federal response, that was because Blanco did not sign papers for the federal response until four days after the storm. The governors of Alabama and Mississippi did that the day of the storm. Then we can get into the issue of National Guard mutual aid that Blanco waited three days to get going. Damn stubborn facts...

The fires in San County started in two places on Sunday, North County where the Witch fire originated and along the border, the Harris Fire.
Yes, North county has a large backcountry area that has been largely developed into mcMansions for rich people, and along the coast (where mightyradG lived) there is also a population of mostly white upscale folks in lil trendy beach communities. Me, I usually drive through North County but don't hang out up there much.
From the border area to downtown, is squished most of the "diverse" communities, mostly Mexican (duh...we are right on the border), black, lots of Filipino families and some white families. The south county is working class folks...yeah, their backcountry is built up too, but the land is flatter, more harsh than up North...so not as MUCH McMansion development, more like track homes and condos, on the less expensive side.
Do not believe that the population that u see on tv that are mostly white are representative of the entire san diego population! The poor folks in South County live in very modest homes, can you say WORKING CLASS?
Me, I tend to hang out mostly in the South County...i live right in between in the inner city.
Please do not generalize, it hurts everyone. The State economies of California and Louisiana could not be more different. I pay high, high taxes for the California infrastructure...the very same infrastructure that coordinated sending us firetrucks from Northern California, also provides for excellent Offices of Emergency Services, highway maintenance and water delivery(as in water coming in pipes from Northern Cali to southern Cali.
The Qualcomm use as a shelter has long been discussed....when it came to putting the plan into action it worked.
Poor people in any emergency will fare worse....common sense folks...but don't make us a homogenous mob of people. Socioeconomics plays a huge part in where people live...not the color of their skin.
Don't believe everything the freakin media shows you...most of it is crap...if i believed the Katrina/crime rate footage and stories...i would think that all of New Orleans was lost underwater and that everyone is a thug with a gun! c'mon peeps...use the grey matter! Generalizations hurt everyone.
