Pulling out of my driveway this morning I almost knocked over a lil' filly out on her morning stroll. When she passed I saw that she was wearing a tee with Jon Cleary emblazened over the back and a jazz fest pic on the front. Hmmnnn, I should stop and ask her what the heck she's doing with that tee... but I was late for work and, really, enough folk already think I'm a nut case! After a few blocks I couldn't stand it and doubled back to accost her.
Turns out she is the girlfriend of Cornell Williams, bass player with Jon Cleary! Crikey we couldn't stop talking. Cornell had been staying just around the corner and had only just left last week to head back home.
She was laughing saying that they had seen a WWOZ sticker on my car when it was parked on the street one day and had been tempted to ring the bell, but talked themselves out of it.
Of course I yabbered on about the Threadheads and she said for sure when he's back in January we'll get something sorted for the raffle.
In the meantime I googled Cornell and it turns out that she is a muscian too! Belinda Butler... very nice. Hope she brings her guitar when she drops in for a drink!
You have to understand that no-one in my world understands our obsession with New Orleans and I was singing all the way to work I was so happy to find a connection in my own little neighbourhood!
Happy Friday y'all... hope everyone finds something to sing about today!

It's amazing how small the world can be!! Just proves that music really is an International language and New Orleans is an International city.

Don't ya just LOVE it when that happens! :D
In Vegas I was standing at the bar waiting on one of the shows to start and a guy walks up beside me to order a drink. I happen to glance over and he was wearing a... HowAhYa shirt! We spent the next 20 mins Jazz Fest talkin'. Meanwhile, my husband's sitting across the room with a WTF look on his face. Too funny!

Ozzie, that's just rich! I share with you the realization that I am alone in my obsession with all things New Orleans, but every now and then I stumble across someone who has visited and who remembers something great about the city. But I am quite sure there are very few who make an annual Jazzfest trip!

OMG Ozzie I lost it on this one. I read it the first time & thought they put T shirts on horses in Aussie land. Had to read it again to understand. So glad you made a new friend. Cornell is great. The guys at work still laugh cause I told them you could not understand what I was saying. They laughed & said Mel, half the time we can't understand you on the radio. So Tanya next time you see me & don't understand what I am saying, just say "Mel, 10-9" which in police talk is what the hell did you just say. So glad you have a new friend to talk all things New Orleans with.

Me three on thinking she almost ran over a horse with a tee shirt on. Of course I still think Oz's avatar is a chicken!
Great story Oz! Just knowing how happy your encounter made you makes me smile.

Nice. Makes it a much more wonderful world, eh, oz. I will always be grateful to Neen, who hooked my friend, juana, and me up. Juana emailed her to say how much she appreciated the world famous grids and Neen said, Hey, you have to meet this friend of mine. She lives just up the road from you. It took a while before i could convince juana i wasn't a crazy loon. Ok, she's still not convinced, but she did agree to meet at our local blues jam. And the rest is history.

Yes it is a great story & we must stop & smell the roses & sing "It's a Small World After All'. It really amazes me that it is a small world & New Orleans brings all of of together. :D

Oh, it's so great to hear stories like that. Earlier this week, I was behind a car on the highway with LA plates and "New Orleans, Proud to Call it Home" sticker on the bumper. I wanted to pull beside it and honk & wave, but figured she'd think me crazy. 'Specially since it was morning rush hour. Maybe next time I'll go ahead and do it.
Of course I still think Oz's avatar is a chicken!

Thanks to the Crows hat you gave me at the last patry (which I wear often), I get the random Aussie coming up and speaking to me, amazed that a fat drunk Yank like me would know anything about footy. Happens about once a month.
