I will be there for 10 days and be there all 3 days of the Voodoo. I'm from NO and am standing in my cousin's wedding next week. We decided to kill 2 birds with one stone and do the Voodoo for the first time too.
What part of Chicago do you guys live? We just moved from Wrigleyville to Green Trails in Lisle.

I'm in southern Lake County -- just north of Lake-Cook Rd near Deerfield.
Mike, I don't know that I'll be there that early on Friday. We're helping someone with their house in the morning and the first must see(s) on my list are Bonerama and Galactic, both at 2:30.
Are either of you flying out tomorrow on American at 2 in the afternoon?

Me & my 16 year old son. This trip is for him. Hoping he returns with me in April. So, might miss some great music by spending time with him. Smashing Pumpkins here we come. Hope to see all of you great Theads. Doing Saturday only. Please, please if you see us tell my son how much Voodoo is like JF. Free beer for everyone who can help me out. I cannot believe the weather forecast. Sunny with high of 72.

Well ya gotta sneak him over for Sam and Shamarr at 3 on Saturday......then we can tell him k? I think we're heading over to Ben Harper and Smashing Pumpkins after that.....might try and sneak back to the WWOZ stage for some Social Club though....seeing Ivan at Tips the night before so that's gonna be okay to miss. DYING to see Ben Harper though :) :)

I'll be there with my almost 16 year old also. Not sure what time I'll get there Friday though...depends on some stuff at work. Saturday I've got a softball tournament in the morning and hopefully I'll get there in time for Big Sam. No conflicts on Sunday. Weather looks terrific. It was really cold and windy today though...felt colder than the temp.

Anyone in the crowd for Rage Against the Machine last night?
I was in the photo pit, and it was kind of scary. Before Rage came on, the crowd was going absolutely bonkers, passing people up over the barricade into the photo pit--dozens and dozens of them. At one point, security got so nervous they had the NOPD on horseback enter the pit. I almost got trampled by one of the horses--I was literally pinned against the speakers and tap dancing like Larry Craig to avoid hooves. This was like a half hour before the band started. Thank heavens it wasn't hot, or I someone might have died. In the end, the crowd seemed to spend its energy, and the first three songs were great. As per the schedule, after 3 songs, they closed the photo pit and I was out of there... Hope the Smashing Pumpkins crowd is slightly less insane...
I'll post some pics of all three days on Monday.

I was in the crowd... nowhere near the photo pit. A bit to the left of the sound stage. There was some friendly moshing going on around me (I got knocked a few times and was apologized to?) and heard of a girl who was hurt and taken out in the back of the crowd.
The show itself was great from beginning to end.
Dare I say I'm getting too old to hang around drunken, moshing 18 year olds??

Amyloves and I were there . . . way in the back near the huge globe light and the SoCo compound . . . Kitten doesn't do mosh pits, stage diving or crowd surfing!
Also, Toubab Krewe DOES rock; we got to dance onstage with New Orleans Social Club (and the Tambourine Lady) last night at the WWOZ stage!!! Woo to the Hoo, y'all! :D
Smashing Pumpkins seemed almost sedated and the sound was muted - a very different band from the one I first saw in the 90's at the Fillmore . . . looking forward to today's lineup :)

It was a tremendous weekend of vibes and beats!
I was lucky enough to work the WWOZ Artists check-in yesterday as part of my VoodooFest volunteer duty and was in hog heaven checking in: Shorty and his krewe (in a pimptastic Suburban limo), Big Sam and his lovely wife, Jon Cleary (who kicked azz at the Preservation Hall Jazz Tent - which needs to be MUCH bigger next year) and his lovely wife, Marc Broussard (who was amazing), Christian Scott, Craig Klein, our honorary T-head, Shamarr, Rev. Goat (part of Dr. John's krewe).
Fave music from yesterday: Irma Thomas, Zap Mama, Marc Broussard, Dr. John and that redonkulus finale of Rebirth and some Haitian musicians to close out the night and VoodooFest '07 . . . good times! :D

I am glad you enjoyed Mute Math, papafrog! I was only able to come late on Sunday, but I did get to hear some of Zap Mama, The Black Crowes, Dr. John w Leo and Wilco in about three hours time. I think that the location and layout for this year was the best by far, but that doesn't mean it won't change again. I was in the Quarter the whole weekend and it was alive like I have not seen since the storm, which was just great to see. I am really happy that so many threadheads came for Voodoo and enjoyed it, but I just couldn't be there much this year to see ya'll. It seems that ya'll managed a mighty large time by yaselves!

I agree with Windowman. You really could catch a lot of different acts. I battled a stubborn little cold all weekend (havent been sick in a year) so I didnt get too crazy. Voodoo did a terrific job exposing the great sounds of New Orleans to a younger crowd who might not normally listen to or even have a clue about these treasures. It was kind of neat seeing such people as Troy Andrews and John Sinclair enjoying the same music. Voodoo isnt jazzfest but it has many of its own charms.

Voodoo Festival: Great location & weather! If JF ever moves from the "Holy Land" of the Fairgrounds this would be the place.
Had to check out Big Sam's web site for the name of his guitar player. Casey Robinson was smokin Saturday. We enjoyed Big Sam and PBS. Only caught their last two songs but have to agree with ya about Mute Math.

Excellent reports all! Kitten did you have big time? ;)
You know I did, baybee!!! It was too cool for school and I was having a VoodooFest "hangover" today . . . way tired and somewhat wore out just generally - but SO worth it, what a BIG time indeed!!
It was great to see the T-heads that I did (as I was working so much of the time, I didn't get to socialize as much), and hope more of the Threadhead Nation will be able to make it down for next year! :D
i wanna be in NOLA

toubab krewe rocks......
best performance of the weekend, imo.
What a weekend! Gorgeous weather, great music, happy crowds, the best food in the world all in the one city that has it all. What else could one ask for?
Favorite performances included toubab krewe, toots, christian scott, t-shorty (were those folks up on stage during his set T-heads?), 'lil band of gold, and amanda shaw (wow!). I was disappointed not to see no social club but my younger daughter wasn't feeling well on Saturday so we left early.
The girls were both thrilled with the other side of the park and have mentioned rage, porcupine tree, circa survive, red jumpsuit apparatus, and fallout boy as favorites. We missed the last two acts of Sunday because we were done in.
All in all it was another great trip to new orleans. Hope to meet some of you next time (chicago mike looks familiar).
