I'm looking at flights and trying to pull the trigger for JF. Prices are good from Baltimore. I usually wait till Dec and regret it. I'm a Thurs- Mon Am 2nd weekender. Who's bought in already?

I haven't booked yet...but may book go outta BWI this time. Direct flights outta Dulles have been $380+ all summer. Not likely to come down, so I may bite the bullet (and save a couple hundred) and fly from BWI.
I wonder when Southwest will allow booking for April and May? $49 each way would make me very happy. :D

Yes Sha- let us known when SW is 100 RT from BWI!
I think they only book about 4 months in advance, so JF would be online around Dec?

Are you going to Galactic @ the 8X10? I caught them there the last time they played, but I may skip out on this one. I think they're playing the 9:30 the night before.

Expedia is showing BWI to MSY 24 APR - Tues. after JF for $180.
FF flights available from here, but no direct flights. We just used our annual Companion Ticket coupon from our skymiles card. Got direct flights but the taxes on the companion ticket were about $200. Still saved about $200 though...

Thanks, sissy, I forgot to even check out airtran. But all their Chicago-NOLA flights connect in Atlanta, which is farther from Chicago than New Orleans! I refuse to take 7 hours to fly via another city when its only a 2.5 hr direct flight.
So, I went ahead & booked my freq flyer tickets. Only 25,000 miles for non-stop flights on united. Hate them, but it'll only cost me $5!

I got Syracuse to NOLA on Delta for $245 (via Atlanta, of course). I booked way early, and I know that something better may show up, but 245 was good enough for me, so I grabbed it.

Booked direct flights awhile ago from LaGuardia (NYC) direct to NOLA on Delta for $225 first weekend. It looks like Delta raised all their prices on direct flights since but still have alot with one stop for about the same price. Lowest direct flights seem to be on United now - still under $300.

That is what I am wondering. I think SW says 7 months prior to fly date. Those flights go so quickly. I am going to get right on that. Jetblue doesn't let you buy until 7 months either.
Sha, what have you decided about festgiving? ALL YOU LUCKY PEEPS
I have my outbound, Fri morning on AA, $88+.
I still need to book my return - I may pay the change fee and use my Festgiving return flight, which I won't need since w#rk is taking me elsewhere straight from MSY.

Ha. No, I don't arrange the codes, nor do I get them in advance.
I can tell you (by checking my blog archive) that last year, the codes got posted during the first week of November. So maybe soon.
For Northwest, I'd suggest looking around for some of the "zone fare" coupons that they distribute sometimes. Usual fare with those is $278, I think. Check your junk mail (valpack etc), and maybe ebay or craigs list. Just verify the small print.

Just put my return on hold. Monday afternoon the 5th, $93+ 1 way.
I was kicking myself because after I had bought the 1 way flight down, I noticed that AA was not selling 1-way returns on the 5th in the cheapest fare buckets, even though those were available on the same flights as half of a roundtrip. But that finally changed today, so I scarfed up a cheapie while it lasts.
This'll make my whole roundtrip $175+tax = $201. That's about $40 more than I used to pay 5 years ago, but a little cheaper than last year, and a lot cheaper than those of you in the midwest fortress hubs have to pay for your nonstops.

Apparently, it is leaving on Tuesday, May 6 that is triggering the higher price. Go figure! Preferred flight would be inbound either Friday 4/25 morning thru Memphis to hit the first weekend, or Monday 4/28 3:10pm to catch dinner with the first weekend krewe and then outbound Tuesday 5/6 4:35 pm to get on home (on the same flight as Corona.) Any other combo, outbound Monday or Wednesday, inbound Friday or Monday, doesn't seem to matter. It's that Tuesday 4:35 Flight that's drivinig it up. Now if it comes to a choice between $90 to Northwest or my hotel, guess which one is going to win?

Yeah, you right about that! Thanks for looking, it hops back to Detroit and then goes direct. I looked at that and was trying to figure out how to get my bags off in Detroit since it's the same flight home from NOLA. Now I've found a flight leaving NOLA at the same time through Memphis that gets me home an hour later but is $338, meanwhile the direct flight RT has gone up to $465!!

Booked mine today from Boston - Monday to Monday. Not a great price, $294, but it went up from $264 last week for the same flights and I was afraid I wouldn't get anything better. I've usually got my flights by the end of Sept/early Oct. They're getting stingy with the good fares.
I already have flights, but checked DAL-MSY at about 10:30, and all the Friday/Monday flights around JF weekends were showing only full fare (now called "Business"). The cheapest SW fares (fun fares, web specials) have always been tough to find for Fest, but you used to be able to get an intermediate price (advance purchase).
Good luck everyone.

I've stayed the past 2 years at the other W (on Poydras) on points. (Not this year though, not enough points for the 10 days). While it's best to book early, just keep checking, maybe once a wekk or so. Rooms will likely open up closer to Fest, and SPG has "last-room availability" for standard rooms when using points.

Well, it is now officially less than 6 months before Fest so we can talk about Fest-upcoming rather than Fest-last!!! Booked my hotel this week for $50/night. Many of us stay at the SunSuites in Metairie. Not fancy, but clean and you have a kitchenette to use on the nights you just don't feel like going out. When you're there for 10 nights, it comes in handy. It's also in a good place to get to everywhere we end up going. Excitement is now kicking in!!

FYI, I checked the Jet Blue site and it will allow you to search April, but not May, so you can book 1st wknd. It was $319 RT out of JFK in NY.
Checked SWA and got a notice that flights will be discontinued out of NY as of Jan 08.
Delta is still looking reasonable out of the NY area.
Air Tran has some good prices outta NY/LGA $104 each way with 1 stopover. I'm waiting for Jet Blue to open up May to compare but this price looks good

I have a room at the Extended Stay Suites in Metairie for all 10 nights that I would love to sell for $425 (includes taxes!). That saves you around $100 and it takes this room off my hands. I would also be willing to break up the reservation. So anyone looking for a nice room at a GREAT price email phishfanNOLA@hotmail.com and lets work out a deal. You can even pay me AFTER you have checked in- no scams here.

Airtran has some decent rates and a lot of availability. I just booked 2 roundtrip seats for $102 each way. The total for 2 was $527. The flights usually have a short stop off in Atl but mine are less that 1 hour. ( this is out of midway 4/24-4/29)

FYI, the flights I was looking at from Boston to NOLA went from $264 two weeks ago to $295 (when I bought them) to $313 today. With all the media frenzy regarding increasing gas prices, I kinda doubt the airfares are going to go down. I know good deals often come up at the last minute, but do you want to take a chance?

I got an email from Frontier today with the lowest price I've seen by almost 200 clams and, is non-stop. The drive is not bad at all. So stoked. I might be able to go to the Patry for the 1st time. When do tix go on sale and sign me up? I'll be staying in Kenner, about 20-30 minutes from everything. I may be looking for roommates and the rent is free. How many more sleeps??????

Just booked my flight for first weekend. $350 non stop from Chicago on United. U.S. Airways was around $250 with a stop in Atlanta but I would rather not take a chance on missing the connecting flight and we will get to N'awlins late morning instead of late afternoon ( don't wanna miss fest ). I'll try and make a Threadhead meet-up this year.

Totally agree. Don't know why I waited so long, but, after watching prices go up TWICE in two weeks, we booked last night, flying from upstate New York to NOLA, leaving 4/27 and staying until 5/5.
Close -- too darn close -- to $400 a ticket, a good $100 or more than we usually pay. But still worth it, and our flight times are good both ways...

For anyone interested and if you live close to the Columbus, Ohio area, there is a fairly new airline that has cheap flights that go close to New Orleans. Skybus Air goes from Columbus, Ohio to Gulfport, MS. for $70. round trip. Leaving April 23rd and returning May 6th. Or, you can go roundtrip April 25th and return May 4th for $160. I've flown 3 times from Burbank to Columbus and back on Skybus and found it not only cheap but quite nice. But Gulfport is about hour and twenty minutes from New Orleans.

Glinda, I just saw one for $214 on AirTran. The dates I used were 24 APR - Tues. after JF.
Glinda, I got the same price about a month ago on Airtran. They fly out of Midway and have a stop in ATL but it was a good price. They also had a lot of availability and options as far as times. My stops are both less than 1 hour.

Thanks Mike. I decided to use miles on United. $214 is cheap enuf to save the miles for something else, but I hate connections, esp when the total flying time is only 2 & 1/2 hours. That plus travel to Midway adds 3 hours to each trip. I want every minute in New Orleans!

New England T-heads - I use both Boston and Manchester airports equally (one is closer to home, the other closer to work), but usually find better fares from BOS.
I just happened to catch it right tonight, at $348 total out of MHT, with Boston just slightly higher. That is the lowest I've seen so far. Jetblue and Southwest were much higher.
So I hope this fare lasts for those of you still looking for a New England departure.

Working under the assumption that there isn't a 'bad' weekend to be at fest, I chose the second weekend an cashed in some FF miles to get a ticket, then went to United.com and Expedia to try and get a ticket for Hope and I managed to screw it up somehow, only the FF Mile ticket seems to have gone through. United has no record of the second ticket. So I tried to get it again and the price was over $600! I can only guess why my purchased ticket 'vanished' ...
It looks like we're taking different flights this time, oh joy!.
