I was trying to get tickets to see Richie Havens in London UK next week and couldn't really afford it so soon after christmas. went on his website to see where else he's playing and woopee he's at jazz fest on 28th April. How brilliant is that. so will have to make sure we see him. sorry if this is old news to you, i just got excited haha and keep thinking it's only 16 weeks to go.. not so long! :)

i'm also really excited. Do you think i should book tickets for any of the extra shows before the event? whats the best way of doing this? would hate to miss out through ignorance. At jazz fests in uk there are always lots of free events which include some of the best performers so we don't usually get tickets until we get there and see who's playing. haven't booked my fest tickets yet either not really clear on how much it is for both weekends. have read the guide but am perhaps having blonde moments and still not sure. anyone??

That's always a big debate on this bored, whether or not to buy tickets in advance for night time shows.I choose to play it by ear unless it is an absolute can't miss show and have never missed out on anything I really wanted to see .

I agree with that assessment. Last year, I think the only night tickets we got ahead were the Meters/RRFB tickets. Otherwise, we played it by ear and always found great music to listen to. (I am a sucker for the small clubs on Frenchmen St, myself)

The first year we went, we were more obsessive about it, but we are going with the flow more now.

So I guess R. Havens is representing Woodstock this year? Things are heating up over at the jazzfestgrids and it looks like another fine lineup for '07.:)

t o, the jazzfest tickets to the fairgrounds will go on sale before the fest. Someone else can say exactly when. Last year there was a period of time when you could get a discount on the tickets. I think they're about 25 a day plus sandh. you'll know when by being on this board.
I'm with others in that the only tickets i buy in advance are when it's a must see. In the past, i've bought karl denson, robert randolph and stomp tickets in advance.

I always get a kick out of the must see thread. By the time it's all said and done, practically everyone is a must see. ;)

I think the advanced discounted tickets went on sale the 2nd week of Feb., on the same day the lineup was announced. They were $20 for the Fridays and $30 for anyday tics (all were weekend specific). Can't wait for them...

As I recall, the discount tickets deal wasn't all that when you factored in the Ticketbastard charges and all. Can anyone find that thread, or recall how it went??
Oh, boy, thinking about buying tickets! Where's the food thread?

Just went back and checked my blog.

Last year, the Fest announcement was Feb 1, and tix went on sale then. It was $30 advance/$40 gate, but tix for Fridays only were $20 before Feb 15.

Oldies... our first Fest last year and we purchased tix in advance for Piano Night (your first big decision is Piano Night or Instruments a Comin) and another show we knew a bunch of Threadheads would be at... nice to know that a friendly face will pick you up off the floor and pour you into a cab when the time comes!

It's hard when you don't know the clubs, the areas or the bands, but if you stick around here you'll get a feeling for what would be good for you. Keep checking the grids and ask if you want to know about the music or venue... folk here will be glad to fill you in.

Failing all good planning I've no doubt you'll have a blast every time you step outside your hotel!

As shows are announced, there will be talk on the board about which ones might sell out. Those are the ones we buy tix for in advance -- the must sees that might sell out. We don't make it to all those shows, but each year we have fewer and fewer wasted tix :)

i just can't believe how quick the time is going. i got the latest NO lonely planets book for christmas and have been poring over it, so excited. I think Ozzie you are right, we will have a blast whatever happens and if we miss out on one thing there will be countless other new things to take its place. I think i will get the jazzfest tickets as soon as they go on sale just to be safe and wait until we get there perhaps for any others. (unless i see otherwise on these threads! ogosh i can't make decisions any more:confused: ) Might have to get Richie Havens tkts tho if he's not in the main festival.
Swag does that mean like $80 each per weekend if bought in advance? and what about the general cost of the other shows? Thanks folks for being so responsive, i don't get on here every day so can't respond back straightaway. xx
