;) so guys what do you think, am thinking of surprising my manfriend (of 12 years) with a wedding (ours) while we are in NO. How easy is it to get married there? will i have to organise much before i get there? we will be staying in NO for 3 weeks so hopefully plenty of time.
We've been talking about it for about 4 years now but don't get round to doing it. We'd both love a wedding with a jazz theme and i thought it would be nice to do it where jazz and music still has its heart. NO could not be knocked down and so there might be a bit of magical influence and hope for any marriage conducted among the people there. how possible do you think it is?

Oh so cool! You know you can get married at the fairgrounds during Fest? I'll let other more knowledgeable folks give the details for that. My wife & I spent our honeymoon in Nola during Jazzfest/World's Fair in '84!

We had a thread about this a little while back, maybe someone more talented than me can find it!
As for your question, YES, it would be great for you to get married here, it is very possible. Have you thought about doing it at the fairgrounds (now all of you THs, get your minds out of the gutter for just a second:p ) You might even get IB to be your wedding planner..:D
There were a couple of venues mentioned in the thread. I know that you can get a license and get married by Judge Norman at the Algiers Courthouse pretty quickly. Then you can ride the ferry back to Canal St and ride around the Quarter in a horse and buggy and stop off in various clubs along the way...you are only limited by your imagination!!

I know a guy who used to post on the board as blukat who marries folks. It could set you back a couple hundred though. Here's his website http://www.figstreet.com/guesthouse/weddingsfees.html

So very cool, trad. Check this:

I love these:
"Out-of-state couples can get married in New Orleans without the 72-hour wait required for locals."
"Cousin Marriages: Yes.
Common Law Marriages: No."

We saw a couple get married last year at the fair grounds. It was very special and what really touched me was how all these strangers(myself included) became part of the experience.
Read Rosetrees thread today about the theft in NO.. That bummed me out and then I read this thread so happy. It helps to focus on the good things in the world and let the evil destroy its self.

:D oo this sounds perfectly possible now.. hmm will have to sneak outfits for us both or do you think there will be anywhere i could hire them? Love the idea of getting married at the fairgrounds Ohio, thanks for that, will look into it. Thanks folks for the responses i will try the links you have given me. i really really would like a trad jazz band in the equation somewhere. just read Nicks thread (am assuming this is the link rosetree mentioned; thanks) i especially liked the sound of (quote) "We left the hotel and were having dinner in the Quarter when all of a sudden we saw the whole wedding party come dancing down the street led by a brass band" written by jazzykeb. we won't have a wedding party just us and any witnesses who happen to be nearby but we will dance behind the band and you can all join in if you want.
Absolutely any other information you can provide will be brilliant. i'll keep you posted as plans get sorted. xxx

YAY, wedding on the fairgrounds, love it!!
I thought you were coming from England, maybe I'm thinking of someone else? Corona and hubby got married in the US and they're Canadian, so shouldn't be any problem, wondering if they needed anything special for a cross-borders wedding?

we are coming from england and i've sent for information regarding the rules and regs in NO so waiting for that to get back to me. i've also sent a message to the steamboat Nachez riverboat as that sounded quite nice too, its a wedding followed by dinner and a jazz cruise down the mississippi..how romantic does that sound?? i expect the reality might be different. Anyone know what this steamboat is like?

This is my photo of the Natchez taken at the Tall Stacks Festival this past autumn. It is a beautiful steamboat!

If you keep coming around this board, I can guarantee that you'll find more than a few willing "witnesses" joining your wedding's second line. (Here's a wild idea....save one parade if not the wedding itself for the threadhead patry )

I know you want me to do the story justice, so I'll have to wait until I have more time than just a few at work. It's a pretty good one, though.

a surprise wedding, interesting idea! I had a hard enough time trying to plan a surprise birthday patry for my hub, so my hats off to you if you pull this off, good luck to you!
speaking of weddings, we met a very nice couple first weekend 1998 on the fairgrounds , who were going to get married during the week. (apparently its not that difficult to plan)..
Names Jim and Katherine from NJ, and it was their (or maybe her) first trip to N.O. We were supposed to leave Monday but due to airline problems ended up staying an extra day (this was b4 we knew about the daze between, in-stores, etc.) SO that day we ran into them in jackson square and hung out with them - since it was the night before their wedding we called it the rehearsal dinner, at cafe du monde... I have since lost touch with them, I wonder if they have ever been back to New Orleans or jazzfest and how they are doing? Jim and Katherine from NJ, if you see this, Joe & Lisa say hey, where y'at!

o the surprise has already been let out as i needed him to get some paperwork sorted and he got suspicious, he thought i was trying to get rid of him haha so i had to tell him.:) i have been trying to get hold of some information regarding what the laws are in NO and what paperwork we need but not having much luck. Any ideas where we could get this info? i've tried the American embassy and the steamboat natchez and neither have replied.

I would think the county court's website would have the info and docs you need.
I have a better idea though. Try www.theknot.com (http://www.theknot.com) and go to the New Orleans local chat board. Those girls know everything and they will be able to tell you immediately what docs you need and where you can get them. That info might be on the website too, you might not even have to ask.
