Harry to close Jazzfest?

This morning on WWOZ (the best radio station for all things New Orleans), Bob French stated that Harry would be playing the closing show at the 2007 Jazz & Heritage Festival in New Orleans. That would be on Sunday, May 6th.

The official lineups for Jazzfest won't be released until February, so we'll have to wait a bit longer for confirmation.

Harry was scheduled to play Jazzfest in 2004 as part of the 'Only You' tour, but the performance was rained out.

At work today I was perusing through a Sony/BMG new release book and Harry's upcoming new album was in it. It's called Oh My Nola, and is described as a rousing big band tribute to his hometown. Some of the proceeds will go to the New Orleans Musicians Village and in the info for touring it stated that Harry will be headlining the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. No specific date but I'd say it's reasonable to assume he would close it out.

And I think it's a fine choice as well. I could definitely see a finale akin to what they did in the Jazz Tent last year. Lots of New Orleans greats up on stage with Harry, especially since many of the songs on the new record are the ones that everyone knows.
