left out friday morning heading to my home away from home.
stopped off in tuscaloosa for lunch and was on my way.
got there about 5:30pm.
went solo because my fiancée had family in town that stayed at our place.
she loves collective soul (second to elvis) and they were playing in nola friday night at the sugar mill.
i went to the sugar mill to meet the band and was going to have the lead singer say hi to her on the phone. got there and wound up getting into the show free.
collective soul is not my thing, so i was looking forward to it being over so i could do what i went to do. after the show, i met the band and was talking to my fiancée at the time, so the lead singer said hi to her and i was on my way.
walking back to my car, i walked up on the shooting of k-ville. stayed for about 45 minutes checking that out. the scene they were shooting was a new silver mercedes with blood on the windshield. the guy who gets shot had a bullet hole in the left side of his head with blood running down his face. the guy who shoots him was in a black leather jacket pointing the gun in the car to shoot him. 2 police cars (one marked and one unmarked) comes from both ends of the street. they jump out and start chasing the guy. they had a water truck there getting the streets so it would look like it was raining.
from there i went into the quarter. made my way to lafitte's blacksmith shop. they had a woman playing piano. i asked about johnny and Jb and they told me johnny moved to NC and they don't know why jb isn't coming around anymore.
from there it was off to tipitina's. cornell williams and friends was playing. the guy working the door let me in free because i wasn't planning on staying. a few different people came on stage to sit in with cornell and the best was jon cleary. he did tipitina and another song.
i met jon afterwards and thought he was a really great guy. (very nice!)
from there i went to le bon temps roule, but the music was already over.
called it a night.
on saturday i meet up with a few threadheads at jazz park for shamarr's show.
met zydekitten, nola, seabass, funkkjunkie, and ibjamn. good meeting you guys!
saturday afternoon, went to port of call for lunch, but the place was packed with lsu fans. (lsu played that day in nola)
had lunch at the clover grill instead. then it was off to tip's.
lots of people looking for an extra, but i knew if there was one to be found i would find it. (i did!!!)
great show. jon cleary was my favorite. dumpstaphunk did bring the funk!
sunday was the congo square festival. i thought this was amazing! will do it again every year.
a free festival in a great location with awesome music. what more could you ask for.
really enjoyed seeing the locals there diggin' it.
left out at 7:00pm to head home. 410 miles from the quarter to my house. (6 hours and 40 minutes)
next up...voodoo!!!
pics to come...
