The anticipation of the first day... arriving an hour early... sipping on a bloody mary at Liuzza's... reading Offbeat, studying the cubes and finalizing a plan that you know isn't going to be followed to the letter anyway...

When I retire, I will not miss opening day. There is just no other day like it-- to walk through the gates that have just opened for the first time that year. To hear the dude in the ice chest for the first time that year. To see the pristine sacred ground, waiting and ready for all those new orleans lovin festfreaks.

With the actual grass just moments away,.. I can't help but wonder if that cool guy in the ice chest is getting his royalty payments???...

And then after safely repositioning those golden liquid goods that agave so graciously gives of itself,.. I head straight for my baby,.. Fried Eggplant,.. a different, but also precious, golden deliciousness,.. accompanied by that all so incredible Crawfish Sauce... And then it's on......

Oh my,.. it's all happening again... That first taste of brunch on the fest grounds is absolute heaven.... And somewhere in between those 2nd,.. 3rd,.. and 4th tastes,.. I allow all the many splendid sights,.. sounds,.. smells to once again take hold of my senses...

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh............ And then it gets better.....
