If I remember correctly, there were some people here who followed American Idol...
This is the latest:

Taylor Hicks to be Endymion Grand Marshal

American Idol winner Taylor Hicks has been selected as Endymion's 2007 celebrity Grand Marshal, parade organizers announced today.

The krewe also announced that Journey, Styx and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Al Green will perform at the Endymion Extrvaganza.

Hicks wooed television audiences last season with his energetic stage performances and his unique vocal style, which merges soul, blues, and R&B influences.

More on Taylor from the New Orleans Social Club's blog:

Well the Xmas Jam was a rousing good time. Feedback on the Social Club's set has been over the top. Warren called it "a religious experience", and after the set concluded, he grabbed the mic and said "That is why we have to rebuild New Orleans"! The band was totally energized by the experience, and a host of guests joined in. Branford Marsalis on sax, played for most of the set. A harmonica summit convened for "Walkin' To New Orleans", when John Popper, Mickey Raffael (from Willie Nelson's band) and Taylor Hicks joined in for a rousing jam. (Taylor is the real deal, don't let the American Idol thing fool ya). Warren joined in on guitar for the last 2 songs as well, and that is Warren and Taylor you hear on "Fortunate Son".

Al played at our Tall Stacks festival this summer. I've been disappointed by him previously, but he is on top of his game now! Great band and super effort! If you loved him when, you'll love him again.

Well, I'm watching just cuz one of the audition cities is in Birmingham and the beginning is just so hysterical! I sure hope this season is better than the last, though. Last season sucked.

Not to mention reading the TH critique of the contestants. Almost made me want to go back to working days so I could see and join in the fray :D

I'm with Corona on this one...bring the RAWK and leave the shmaltzy kareoke elsewhere! (I think it would be MUCH more fun to see something like "Crackhead Pop Star" where they round up a bunch of crack heads to sing. Can someone get on this asap PULEEZE???)

When you said "shmaltzy karaoke", I immediately thought of Katherine McPhee. ;)

Oh, and I'm on the crackhead thing.

I, for one, can't wait for American Idol. I didn't think last season sucked at all! :)
