That's a decent price, but it turns out, it actually can be beat.

Would you believe $39/night?

jazzfestchic, use swag's link to go to his live report. Then use the link to go to swagland. Scroll down and click onthe hotwire link. Put in your jazzfest dates and the 39 rate pops up. These are nonrefundable, noncancellable rooms but what a fab rate! ps if you access hotwire this way, swag gets a tiny piece of the pie.

It seems to good to be true though if it's a mistake can Hotwire come back and cancel it or anything? I have the confirmation number. It's just SO much cheaper then anything else, could it be a mistake?

Nope, hunni. You're in. In 05, we got staybridge suites for $57 plus fees. This rocks even more! And by my favorite barometer for rooms in the quarter: only 4 blocks from LMF!!!!

I booked it from 4/25-4/30; then again from 5/1-5/5. One day in the middle to go home and sober up. :)

I got the same rate; $39/night for both segments. It is so hard to believe that we're booking for Jazzfest at such a low rate. Just another benefit of being a Threadhead.

And I've got all of these months to pay off the credit card. Life is great!

Bless you, Swag. I owe you a beer. Hell, a dozen beers and dinner. My first born, if I ever have one!

It depends on the hotel. Probably 50/50.

Officially, Hotwire rooms are not changeable and the guest named at booking time must be the one to check in.

What works sometimes is to call the hotel, let them know that your companion will arrive before you, and please let them check in. Some hotels will accomodate that, some will not, and it's typically based on what their computer system will allow, so not much discretion on the part of the clerk.

After multiple failed online transactions we were able to get in on this last night by calling Hotwire's customer service. Some advice - if you get an error on Hotwire and it says it wasn't confirmed, don't keep trying, (I ended up with multiple "holds" on my account). Just call customer service - they answer relatively quickly, are quite helpful, and speaka good English. I have never booked anything this far in advance... THANK YOU SWAG for publicizing this deal!

I see that you went ahead and booked for one weekend -- seems like a good compromise to keep the excitement alive for that second weekend Paul :)

I do think we want to do Blues & Brews one of these days, it's not that far from us and the line up always looks amazing. This year being unemployed and unable to drink it just didn't seem worth it, but I do forsee it in the future! You posted your pix in your review, didn't you? I need to check those out still . . . Been awhile since I've been on the board and am just getting caught up!

Lots of hotels charge you the fee every time you park. The HI FQ gives you a permit when you pay the charge that allows you to come in and out whenever. This is not the case at most lots in New Orleans. I stayed there in the days between last year, and the parking situation enabled me to drive a lot more. Ordinarily, I would have to leave the car parked and walk or take transpo to keep from paying even more for parking. It's still ridiculous.

You can't, really. If you are resigned to park in the facility of whatever hotel you end up with, you better figure around $25/day for parking. There are public lots to be had that are cheaper, but only if you park and leave your car for most of your time there (it's expensive to go in and out a lot).

funkkjunkie
10-13-2007, 09:25 AM
Before the Thing, we stayed at staybridge suites one year. After one night in the valet parking, I moved to a public lot just a block away. I convinced one of the attendants to let me pay 10 a day for the week with in and out priveleges. But that was before. Last year I paid 29 a day at Holiday Inn Chateau Lemoyne. The other lots in the area looked cheaper but no in and out so ultimately more expensive.

you can park at harrah's up to 24 hours for free if you gamble for 30 minutes.
you could do the 1 cent machines and spend little of nothing.

the parking deck i usually park at is the one on ramphart for $6.00 a day.

Don't know about night rates, but I usually park there during the day, prepay (it used to be $4) & return at night. No problems, but it's pretty deserted at night.......no open businesses at that edge of the quarter, so it's kind of a thrill when you make it back to your car.
