I'm trying to find a book of photo's that would feature primarily the CBD, and what the docks, Jax Brewery, looked like before the area became Riverwalk Mall, Woldenberg Park. Can anyone help?

It's a stretch, but better than nothing:

You'll have to sniff around, so good luck. And enjoy: some very interesting stuff in their collections.

As an aside, I stumbled across them while searching for the work of my best friend's dad, Jack Beech. He was a commercial photographer, and his office/studio/darkroom was located on Royal Street, right at the foot of Pirate's Alley.

Ah, the memories.

Out of curiosity. I'm a history buff, and I'm alway's curious how someplace once looked. I've read A Confederacy of Dunces several times, and he discribes Poydras St and the docks before the high rises and The Riverwalk Mall. In my mind I can picture it, but still I'd like to see photo's. I recently bought the DVD Panic In The Strees. I love seeing what it used to look like on what's now Moonwalk. I look at that building standing in the parking lot by Jax and try to picture what the area was once like. Like the building is the last reminant of what once was. I also have an interest in the JFK assasination and I'd really like to see a picture of what it used to look like in the area of Oswald's office at 544 Camp St

Hey papafrog...this site and the book shown at the bottom were created by a very good friend of mine....our moms and best friends and we grew up like sisters. Turns out jenn has met her as well through a different food related group. Small world! And thanks for recommending it!

very interesting....new orleans is a great city to study history....still
alot of historic buildings all over the city....
by the way theres a huge miss. river project in the pipeline, from Poland st.
in the bywater all the way to the cbd....next time your in neworleans
take a little trip along chartres st. in the marigny and the bywater,
that riverfront area is scheduled to undergo alot of changes, most of which
look good....however some the residents of the area, are against lifting of the
height restrictions along the waterfront....
stop in at Elizabeths for a bit to eat.....its right on chartres st...
or The Joint for some delicious BBQ, its on Poland, just off chartres...
or Bacchanal for some wine, its also on Poland.....at that point your real
close to Vaughans, where Kermit plays thursday nite late, but its a local
bar/hangout at other times...real nice people...
